Butterbeans and hidden truths

Half way down the dark hallway and shots ring out. Confused and disoriented, he moves forward seeking Butterbeans. He couldn’t understand what was happening. It wasn’t beyond his training. It just made no sense.

He moves forward in a dark hallway. The silence is deep, and permeating. It is disturbing after the sounds of the gunfire. Furthermore, he can’t imagine the possible threat in this newly constructed level. Particularly one that is governed by the military. Whatever it is has come unexpectedly.

With this in mind, he moves forward at a steady pace. And he listens intently for Butterbeans. He is forcing his thoughts away from thinking about the worst case scenario. The Lieutenant has been excellent on every mission.

Butterbeans

Furthermore, the whole team worked well together. When he and Butterbeans had been assigned to this team, it had been a perfect fit. Additionally, it was one of the reasons the unit worked so well. Butterbeans was more than a simple furry creature. She is a teammate, and also is respected as such.

Alex pauses because a new sensation is taking over. The floor moved. Furthermore, the entire level had shaken, as though an earthquake had occurred. What was going on here? He braces himself against the wall trying to maintain his balance.

More gunshots ring out in the inky blackness ahead as Alex tries to maintain his balance. And he can no longer deny that this mission has gone off the rails. The shaking of the floor eases, and Alex moves ahead with determination. He has to find Butterbeans, immediately.

Moreover, she has not made any sound or returned. Not only has he lost contact with his partner, but also the team. His only consolation is that it’s a closed level. He will eventually find them.

He thinks back to the moments before they had begun the search of level 113. Was there anything out of place, or off? However, he can remember nothing out of the ordinary, as he moves forward in the darkness.

Hidden Truths

He is searching for Butterbeans. It is unclear why she is not responding or why she has not returned. Due to the nature of the work they do, the return check in, was the most important part of their partnership.

The floor of level 113 begins shaking again. Alex continues moving, and abandons protocol, calling out to Butterbeans. The floor of the level begins shaking even more violently. Alex struggles to maintain his balance.

From the darkness ahead, comes a short bark. It is followed by a menacing growl. Alex tries to stay on his feet as the floor shakes badly. Now there is more alarmed barking, and it is evident Butterbeans is in a struggle.

Alex calls out to her and moves forward recklessly. He no longer cares about training. He only cares for his partner’s safety, and he is determined to reach her in the darkness.
