Can reading a good book save a battery?

They are old but new. Once upon a time, they were the only way to read the words, once upon a time. Made of paper and ink, real books, were once a great way to read. In fact, it was easy to get lost between the covers of a good book. Especially a novel written by an accomplished author.

However, things changed once the internet became a reality. With the Advent of the internet, an interface became necessary. It was the only way to use the internet. Therefore, a screen became the solution. Fast forward a couple of decades, and screens rule. In fact, they rule so much, the book is all but a memory.

In recent years, reading comprehension scores in schools, have dropped. Furthermore, there is speculation that the ability to read is becoming less and less. And to be fair, there was a pandemic not too long ago. Almost all schools felt the impact of the pandemic and the precautions that followed. Furthermore, it took a couple of more years, to sort through all the set backs.

Reading a Good Book

Reading a good book hardly compares to a tik tok video. In fact, many tik tok videos are watched in the time it takes to read two pages from a book. Depending on the book, that might just be one page. However, it’s just easier to watch a video. A book requires being in the moment. And focus. The result of which can be a journey far far away.

With this in mind, it seems entirely possible to save a battery. Moreover a good story might evolve. One never knows when starting that first paragraph. It’s just getting to that first paragraph that counts. Reading a good book is also a timed event. In other words it isn’t necessary to read the whole book in the first sitting. Actually, it takes a chapter or two before the hook sets.

Unless it’s one of those top shelf good books. Or the next good book in a series. Those are the ones that are hard to put down. It’s easy to get lost there, given enough time. And it feels like that is where this article is leading. It takes time to absorb a good book.

Save a Battery

Reading screens is possible. There are differences in how the words appear. Which one would expect. However it isn’t the same as the feel of the pages as one is turned. Nor the way the mind hangs on the last word of the previous page. As though preparing for the next dive into the imagination.

Additionally no electronic bookmark works for a real book. If a dog ear doesn’t do the trick, then almost anything can be used for a real bookmark. Therefore saving a battery is possible. Especially with a good book involved. It’s all about the book. The work between the covers is a mystery, until read. No plug, no electricity and no charging. Just the written words and imagination. Thanks for reading.
