Confrontation – The Retrieval of Jupiter’s Heart

Tiny lifts the men up and easily tosses them backward. They collide with the next group of men trying to breach the door. It is becoming a crowded area at the entrance of the private room. Within moments their own people arrive and now it is near chaos, and the shouting intensifies. Not five minutes ago it was a peaceful and quiet afternoon. Now the street bustles with police cars and official looking sedans with tinted windows.

Nevertheless, it’s Tiny’s job to protect Callisto. In fact, he is Callisto’s personal guard. And has been for more than a few years. Their security detail prepares for scenarios like these. Therefore, Tiny is merely waiting for backup. It arrives just as several more police cars pull into the parking lot. Right behind them, the Diplomatic Security team arrives. Now it’s only a matter of time. Tiny need only keep them off Callisto for a few more minutes. He smiles. Piece of cake.

Confrontation

Callisto pauses and looks at the door. The commotion outside is increasing in volume. But he has no worries about being interrupted. In fact, Tiny is more than efficient at dispersing unwanted guests. He is more concerned with Mary Elizabeth. Although he has only just reunited with his sister, he expects at least a small amount of time to catch up. However, it wasn’t going to be so simple. It seems their intelligence gathering was spot on as usual.

With this in mind, Callisto is certain Chief Fred Jones is playing his hand. How could he resist a confrontation? He is going to get the old man at last by going after his children. Callisto checks the window and watches Tiny toss two men as though they are made of straw. He watches more police cars pull in and then their own Diplomatic Detail arrives. It would be over soon. And then they would resume their discussion.

“What in the blazes is going on out there James Abner?” Mary Elizabeth’s voice brings him back from his thoughts. She sounds worried but not surprised. An observation she confirms in her next words.

“It’s that scoundrel Fred Jones isn’t it? I knew he wouldn’t be able to resist creating a scene. Still after Dad all these years later. I suppose the bastard thinks he will pursue him into the afterlife.” She turns and moves to the small wet bar to freshen her drink. Callisto stares at her. He blinks but is caught profoundly off guard. He is considering that his sister might just be a badass.

The Retrieval of Jupiter’s Heart

Detective Laraby is considering rushing the giant man guarding the door of the meeting room. However, he watches the confrontation. Then he watches the giant toss two of the security team like they are weightless, and changes his mind. Furthermore, they aren’t the first. There is a moment Laraby is certain they will get their targets inside the room. Then all hell breaks loose in the parking lot.

confrontation

More police cruisers pull in. Followed immediately by official Diplomatic security forces. Now it is a scene of chaos, as sirens and flashing lights rule. Additionally the Diplomatic Security force appears to be very well prepared. In fact, Detective Laraby and his men are seriously outmatched. He watches their plan fall apart, before it can even take off.

As the madness continues to escalate, Laraby’s phone rings. It is the Chief. Laraby feels a pang of dread work its way up his spine. This is not good. It can’t be good. If the Chief is calling him in the middle of a botched operation then someone worse has already called the Chief. As he looks at his phone he gets several text messages. They are from the Mayor. Laraby stares at the phone. It is clear that the shit has now hit the fan. Furthermore, Laraby is standing front and center.
