Finders keepers – Down on the farm.
It isn’t possible to make this stuff up. That whole business about truth being stranger than fiction? That’s an understatement. Kenneth kicks the old wooden box again. Nothing. Maybe it was a fluke? He looks back up at the sky and decides that isn’t possible. Flukes don’t leave neon lit vapor trails at night. He looks at the object in his hand. Although it is dark, it’s easy enough to see that it’s some kind of metal statue. It’s not overly impressive but that business with the exploding lights sure was.
He looks back at the freshly dug hole. So much for finishing before nighttime. At least now that there isn’t an obstacle in the way, he should be able to get the fence post in the ground, and the wire strung. It would be nice to be back in, before midnight. He looks at the metal statue a little closer. About a foot tall and it must weigh several pounds. Furthermore, the metal it was made from is highly unusual. Too bright and light to be lead, but too shiny and smooth, to be worthless. Also, it was oddly shaped. It wasn’t a statue of a human, that much was obvious.
It takes him another thirty minutes to finish setting the fence post. A few minutes after that and the fence repair is done at last. It’s about time too, he was feeling ravenous at this point. All that digging put his appetite into overdrive. What the heck was that anyway? Furthermore, who would ever expect something celestial buried with a mysterious statue, in an old wooden box? Finders keepers though. And he drives the rest of the way back to the house in puzzled silence.
Finders Keepers
It was gold. Additionally, there is platinum. Although he can’t be sure about that last part. However, he is certain it’s a precious metal. Similarly, he isn’t certain, but the eyes might be actual rubies. He sets the strange statue back on his workbench. It must weigh close to seven pounds. Finders keepers. His mind goes back to the moment he opened the old wooden box. There was an enormously bright flash of light. Then something shot off into the night sky. It was like some kind of a firework, but more ethereal and lightning fast.

Slowly he turns the statue, watching the way the light plays on the various curves of the metal. It’s a statue of something otherworldly. This is more of a feeling than anything he knows. It has eyes, and what appears to be a face, but the features shimmer and move, unlike anything he’s ever seen. The metal appears to be holographic. Furthermore it looks like it has swirls of movement, yet it remains stable, and cool to the touch. It tells a story. And again this is something he feels and not something he knows.
What he knows, is that this farm has been in his family, for generations. In all his years, none of his kin ever found any treasure. The land is the treasure, son. He hears his Granddad’s words echo from the past. Truest words, he thinks, as he stares at the statue. If it’s gold…he tries to remember the last time he heard about the price of gold, then decides it doesn’t matter. Gold is gold. And those eyes…he takes a closer look to see if they really are rubies. And it’s only the tiniest puff of air from the mysterious statue, but it catches Kenneth square in the mouth.
Down On the Farm
He falls to the floor of his workshop, unconscious. Visions unfold in his mind. It is celestial. Everything is celestial and connected. Now he sees his home. It falls away as the celestial sky becomes his universe. He is outside of time. Something that makes very little sense, yet he understands perfectly. The feeling of becoming tuned into something, becomes very strong for him. And next, he watches a strange movie in his mind.
It’s a history lesson. Has to be. Only it isn’t a history he recognizes. Because he’s watching battles rage, and ships destroy, and be destroyed, but not on any sea. He’s watching a celestial war. These are interstellar ships and he is watching the long ago past. He feels slightly disoriented but not in a bad way. Indeed, he understands this is more than paranormal vision. It’s more than a dream, Something is happening. A major event is about to take place and somehow Kenneth has a front row seat.

Now he’s watching a young man in a hospital bed. The young man is not alone, however he appears to be sleeping. An older gentleman is there. Kenneth feels a strange sense of deja vu. Once again he feels, more than knows, that the two are related. Most likely a dad and his son. Kenneth can’t help but stare at the scene. The two appear to be glowing. Especially the young man in the hospital bed. In fact they appear to be surrounded by that same light that erupted from the wooden box last night…
Finders Keepers
Kenneth wakes up on the floor, looking up at the ceiling. The room spins slightly as he tries to roll over and get to his feet. The metal statue lays a few feet away. It must have taken quite a fall because it is no longer in one piece. Warily he gets to his knees and pauses to catch his breath. What the hell? He remembers trying to take a closer look at the eyes of the statue and then…in his mind he sees the interstellar ships warring and disintegrating. He remembers everything.
The statue lies on the floor in two pieces now. It appears as though the base of the statue separated from the whole. Although upon closer inspection, it isn’t detached. Just open. Kenneth picks up the metal statue and looks inside the open base. There is something here. It is small and shiny. And at first he feels astounded by what he sees. A key. But not just any key, this one is made of the same metal as the statue with one exception. The handle of the key, is one large, beautiful diamond.
