Flown connection – The retrieval of Jupiter’s heart
Benjamin shuts the door behind him. The room is dark. He is not the only one here. He can sense, more than see, the intruder. Reaching under the lapel of his coat, he draws his gun. Then he presses his back against the wall. When it happens, he knows it will be quick. Slowly, and quietly, he draws a large breath of air. In the darkness, he hears the creak of a floorboard, as the intruder changes position. Any second now…
Flown Connection
Eileen steps up to the ticket counter and purchases her ticket. This was a long time coming. She thinks about the old man again. Even though he is gone, she still thinks about his story. It wasn’t that it was sad, as much as it was compelling. In fact, it was almost unbelievable. If she hadn’t been a part of it, she wouldn’t have believed any of it.
The airport is not crowded today. Neither are there any delays. Good, she thinks, as she walks to her gate. It was still a little hard to believe she was finally on her way. She waited ten years for this day. Furthermore, she worked day and night. This had been earned. Therefore, she was going to enjoy every second of this trip to her new home.
She thinks about her new home as she waits for boarding. It was hers now. In fact, the last few things she did for the old man Benjamin, helped finish her own dream. Now her days would be spent in a much warmer climate. She smiles as she thinks about her dream. She is still smiling when the detective sits down beside her. Two minutes later, she is no longer smiling.
The Retrieval of Jupiter’s Heart
Detective Laraby watches the nurse make her way to the boarding gate. He has a pretty good idea about the destination. They have been monitoring this since day before yesterday. At first none of it made any sense. However, that is because they were going off of older records.
In fact, if the Chief hadn’t added the extra information, they would have a flown connection. Indeed, it was a close thing. Subsequently, after some effort, they tracked the nurse here. Another hour and they would have missed her. Now Laraby gets to be the one to lower the boom.
This is the part of the job he likes the most. Lowering the boom on the perp. He looks for the opening. Every suspect has that moment, when they think they are home free. That is when Detective Laraby strikes. The suspect’s sudden surprise, and then consternation, is a moral victory for Laraby. He watches the nurse closely. A moment later she smiles. Laraby thinks, Now! And he moves in.
Flown Connection
Benjamin listens to the sound of the darkness. In it, he hears the quiet intake of a breath. Additionally, he hears the creak of the floor. And he can sense the malice brooding in the darkness. He is grateful he noticed the footprints outside his door. At least he had a heads up. With this in mind, he edges along the wall toward the back of the room.
A gruff voice shouts from the darkness, cursing Benjamin loudly. Then several muzzle flashes of light, flare outward, as the roar of gunshots fill the room.
