How journaling techniques can lead to daily wellness wins
Write it down. That was the advice. And it came from long ago. Further back than any computers. Therefore writing it down is good for more than just passwords. In fact, writing something down, is an effective way to commit it to memory. For example, a grocery list. Write one out and remember every item. Go to the store without one, and it’s a return trip waiting to happen.
With this in mind, writing something down has quite an effect. On the writer. And that isn’t far fetched. Furthermore, with just a few journaling techniques, anyone can benefit from writing things down. For example, the feeling of anxiety. Most everyone can relate to that feeling. It can cause side effects too. Like feeling on edge, or irritable. Similarly, it drives overthinking. But what if your anxiety was a quirky side kick? Through journaling techniques, that is one possible way to cope with anxiety.
Journaling fiction, is a great way to stretch the imagination. It’s also a technique for writing things down. In the example above, anxiety is a quirky sidekick. It’s interesting to think of all the sidekick moves anxiety could have. A heart rate accelerator Ray gun for starters. It takes mad skill to aim one of those, so it has to count as a move.
Journaling Techniques and Daily Wellness
It could be a recipe, or a chance to learn a new word. Selecting a word and writing it down is an effective way to commit it to memory. Write down its meaning and the memory solidifies. Do it daily and that’s the essence of keeping a journal. Furthermore, it is considered a healthy practice by the American Psychological Association. APA.

In their resources on expressive writing, the APA notes that journaling about thoughts and experiences can enhance working memory capacity. As well as long term recall, by processing emotions and freeing mental resources. It’s hard to overlook benefits like that. Furthermore, there is research that increasingly supports a handwritten journal over a typewritten one. Although both are effective. However, it appears handwriting has an advantage for deeper cognitive engagement.
Additionally, handwriting promotes better memory retention. And enhanced emotional processing. Although typing has advantages in speed and accessibility. And the underlying benefit is still there. It feels like a surprise to learn that an ink pen and a notebook can be so valuable. And so effective at combating stress.
Daily Wellness Wins
Doing something daily, can form a habit. Furthermore, good habits are like bad habits. They’re cumulative. Practice something daily and it becomes normal. Therefore, journaling techniques can lead to daily wellness wins. When done consistently. It’s difficult to benefit from cumulative results, if nothing has accumulated.
