Mr. Werlington’s flea circus

Mr. Werlington’s flea circus

The day had been dreary, but that wasn’t a concern for Mr. Werlington. He enjoyed dreary days. Not only did he enjoy them but he absolutely looked forward to them. He was accustomed to being alone and found dreary days to be therapeutic.

In fact, Mr. Werlington hadn’t spoken with a human in almost ten years, on this planet. The assignment didn’t require it. He stretches and adjusts his seat carefully. There was still a lot of the show, to see.

It was conditioning from the world where he grew up. Stark and barren with no atmosphere, it was ideal for few realities. Mr. Werlington wasn’t from around here, this assignment was his test. When he first came to this land, he was surprised at its complexity, for how primitive it was.

Primitive and complex, and, his assignment for the next fifty years. He wasn’t complaining, it could have been much shorter, there was so much moving to and fro in the universe these days.

He takes a few moments to gather his thoughts before continuing. The lion pit had been in disarray, and the lion tamer was deep in conversation with his assistant about the next show.

Mr. Werlington leans forward in his chair, intent on catching the rest of the conversation. He was always interested in the lion tamer’s show, it takes such courage to work so closely with the wild creatures!

Vivaldicello’s lion show

The lions roar and jump mightily across the stage and through the flaming hoops. Vivaldicello commands the lions and snaps the whip! The lions roar again! Their good will seemingly at an end!

Vivaldicello’s assistant opens the large steel cage doors, leading to the lion’s chambers. All but one lion move into the safety of their dens. The remaining lion is defensive and snaps at the assistant.

Vivaldicello cracks the whip and commands the lion into its den! The assistant is safe but only just barely. It had been a close one, and Vivaldicello was certain this would start the argument, all over again.

He wasn’t disappointed, because just a moment later the assistant folds her arms and looks at Vivaldicello with raised eyebrows.

“Are you just going to ignore that last part? You know that could have been much worse! I tell you they need new cages!” She plants her feet, and continues staring at Vivaldicello. Who decides that there is no real point in arguing.

Lion Tamer

For you see, Vivaldicello’s assistant is also his darling wife! And Vivaldicello knew she would have her way, he was always powerless to resist her. He concedes to her, and promises to start the search for the new cages, first thing in the morning!

At this moment Vivaldicello has an appointment with the ringmaster to discuss the upcoming show.

Mr. Werlington blinks dreamily, and leans back in his chair. That Vivaldicello was such a character! Hopefully they will have the cages replaced by the next show.

Mr. Werlington was going to have to check back in on the flea circus later, because at the moment his attention was needed elsewhere. He had company, and there were never visitors.
