One and only love

“We should be going now.” They look at Tiny as he speaks, “Miss Davis will be expecting us soon.” The head of Callisto’s security detail stands just behind Callisto. Only a few short minutes ago did they retrieve Eric from the strange building. It was much less dramatic than they feared. Apparently Eric managed to free himself shortly before they arrived. Callisto, Eric and Emma stand just outside the place where Eric was being held prisoner.

Emma hugs Eric again. This time she tries to eliminate all space between them. If she has her way, they will never be apart again. There is activity all around, but for the moment only Eric and Emma exist in the world. This experience has done more than shake them. It has galvanized them. They cling, one to another, as Callisto quietly confers with the head of his security detail.

A few minutes later they all move toward the limousine. This matter is not resolved yet. Therefore caution is still warranted. Although they have Tiny, and there are at least ten other security guards in Callisto’s detail, he’s not leaving anything else to chance. They don’t have Eileen. And Eileen is a threat to anyone with ties to Benjamin Thomas. The problem is, they don’t know the depth of her involvement. Nor do they know her current location.

The Retrieval of Jupiter’s Heart

It takes three minutes to bypass the house security system. Then another sixty seconds, to break the door lock. By the time anyone passes by the property on the corner, Eileen is inside. However, she’s not too worried. She has her own backup. They may know about her, but not everything about her. She spent years carrying Benjamin Thomas. He may have been off his rocker in his old age, but he was also the keeper of many secrets.

Furthermore, he shared those secrets. Sometimes in his sleep, sometimes when he was in a story telling frame of mind. And oh the stories he would tell. Eileen was his nurse, and care giver, for over four years. This meant she learned a great deal. Benjamin Thomas was an extremely wealthy man. But that paled in comparison to his connections. To think he left all that wealth to these youngsters is inconceivable.

She looks around the living room of the newly constructed home. By now they found Eric. Best she get busy hunting what she came for. Although he didn’t know it, Eric helped her find the things she wanted. This would have been more complicated if the deeds and the locket were in a safe deposit box. They were in a safe alright. A safe inside the new home Eric and Emma built. However, that wasn’t a problem for Eileen.

It only takes a few minutes for Jupiter to leave the plane. One of the advantages of having a private plane was the ease of boarding. It meant less time in lines. Or at boarding gates. Additionally, most people didn’t have a limousine waiting when they got off their planes. Jupiter was grateful for many things. Her life away from Benjamin, was one of them, but it hadn’t always been that way. Once upon a time they were very much together.

In fact, when she thinks about it, perhaps they never really were that far apart. The limo driver opens her door, and she climbs inside. Mary Elizabeth is taking care of her lodgings until this event is over. They will all gather at Mary Elizabeth’s estate in the country. The one and only place ideal for a secluded family getaway. She checks her phone, as she waits for the limo driver to load her suitcase into the trunk of the limo. They found Eileen.

The Plan

This is good news. Furthermore, she is where they knew she would be. As far as Jupiter is concerned, it should be up to the authorities now. However, Mary Elizabeth wants to keep it in house. In-house! She can scarcely believe it is Mary Elizabeth suggesting this nonsense. In fact, it’s straight out of a Benjamin Thomas playbook. She signals the driver she is ready to leave. They begin to move away from the airport. Not much longer now she thinks.

Once upon a time, this was Benjamin Thomas play. Things are different now. It’s almost as though time is replaying itself. Although she can’t put her finger on it, something is off. It’s been tugging at her intuition. Now, as she moves toward the next step it’s getting stronger. She leans back in the seat and closes her eyes. Her one and only love. When did everything change so much?
