The holiday spirit and easy ways to avoid Santa
Richard was scared. He was so scared he couldn’t move. That was okay, he didn’t want to move. He didn’t want to take the chance they would see him. So he works himself further into the corner. He focuses all his attention on breathing slowly. Quietly. It only takes the slightest noise, for them to notice something. Richard shudders. Ever so quietly.
After a while, it is safe again. Fortunately, this isn’t, the night. If it had been the night he would have been caught. There is no simple hiding when Santa is at work. In fact, from all the stories he’s heard, no one even tries to hide. They already know it’s too late. Of course, that’s only if they didn’t give a present. The problem for Richard, is that he doesn’t have a present to give.
Every year it is the same. Everyone gets ready for Santa’s visit. Everyone has to, or they disappear. It’s a tradition. It goes back as far as Richard can remember, and they are expected to learn it very early on. Santa is real. Santa arrives every year for his present. Better not run, better not hide, and forget pouting, and I’ll tell you why, because Santa doesn’t mess around.
The Holiday Spirit
Richard decides to leave the mall area. There’s too much possibility he might accidentally run into Santa. It’s the early gifting time, and it’s at the mall. Anyone wanting to avoid having Santa show up at their home, on the night, can bring their present to one of the early gifting locations. It only takes a minute. Furthermore, the lines are never long.
With this in mind, Richard thought he could pull off a trip to the mall, but he was wrong. It took all of ten minutes before Santa’s helpers noticed him. It is spooky, and sinister, how they can tell who has a present, and who doesn’t. That isn’t even the worst of it. However, Richard is across the street now, and much safer. He looks around for more of Santa’s helpers, just in case.
Maybe when he gets home, he can do some more research on the best ways to avoid Santa. He feels like he’s on the verge of a panic attack. There’s no way he will have a present in time for the night that Santa shows up. That’s why the helpers were so interested in him. They knew.
The Holiday Spirit and Easy Ways to Avoid Santa
The following day Richard is very nearly a nervous wreck. He isn’t feeling the holiday spirit. It’s noon, and there’s less than eight hours before Santa begins his work all around the world. Ordinarily that might take a little while, but not for Santa. Somehow he could make it all around the world in one night. Just one night, to gather up all his presents. And gather more helpers.
Richard’s stomach plummets when he thinks about Santa’s helpers. The poor souls who didn’t have a present. Vanished into the north pole with Santa, only to return once every year, to help gather presents for Santa. Furthermore, Richard couldn’t stand the cold. Therefore he surely didn’t want to go live in the north pole. He intends to fortify his hiding place, and do whatever he can to avoid Santa.
He still has three hours before the night officially begins. Maybe there’s hope yet. It’s a positive state of mind, and he needs it, because when he turns back around, Santa is standing there. Richard feels his blood run cold, and chills race up his spine, as Santa, with a dark grin, greets him warmly…”Ha Ha Ha! Where’s my present”?
