The House Across the Street Inverse

The House Across the Street Inverse

The Rain was calming and had been pouring for days. It was a fine thing to have such wonderful weather. With any luck it would continue for days yet. The weather reports were hinting of it, and it has been over a hundred years, since the weather has been this good.

The house across the street is brightly lit, the windows are filled with that soft glow of home on a stormy night. It’s unsettling and disconcerting.

The lightning is crisp and flashes beautifully in the night sky. The thunder is melodic and soothing. It rumbles almost continually, and causes a faint jingling of the fine silver.

The house across the street sits pristinely in its lot, it is quaint and blends well with the neighborhood. The well manicured lawn is tended daily and never appears unkempt. Its uniformity with the rest is unfortunate. Perhaps it’s time to consider the selling of this house, once again.

History

When this house was constructed no one understood its unique beauty. Nor could anyone know the reasoning behind some of the more precise dimensions that comprise this structure. Town meetings and the many complaints and accusations that were levied there, could not stand in the way of the completed work. Derelict, indeed.

The House Across the Street Inverse

The storms are gaining in intensity, the rain has become a torrential downpour, and the lightning is near constant in its flashing brilliance. A very well developed storm, worthy of applause, and as if on cue the thunder clap booms across the land, shaking the house and all within. How delightful.

The house across the street sits pristine and for a few moments the soft glowing lights in the windows flicker off and on, then off. The power has failed, the house is now dark and one second later, disappears.
