There’s no such thing as ghosts, especially in the walls
There it is again! Leonard tilts his head and strains his ears. Any second now. Patiently he waits. Sooner or later it will happen. Most likely, right after he gives up. It’s been this way for over a year. At first he thought it was a ghost. But that’s just what they wanted him to think. Blame it on the ghost. Therefore no questions can be asked. The only problem is, Leonard knows there’s no such thing as ghosts.
That isn’t him being stoic. In fact, that is his own rational thinking. There’s no such thing as ghosts, because Leonard has never seen any evidence otherwise. In all his forty two years, not once has he ever experienced the paranormal. However, things changed a year ago. Back then, signs of a ghost were showing up everywhere. Everywhere in his home. Outside of his home it was as though his sanity returned.

With this in mind, it took a few months, but he became accustomed to the haunting. Similarly, once he realized it wasn’t a real haunting, the tone of everything changed. However, he decided to keep it to himself. At home, and out and about. His reasons were twofold. One: he knew he was up against something, but he didn’t know what. And two: It was happening at his home base.
There’s no such thing as ghosts
Nevertheless, he let it go on. Not because he was scared. Leonard didn’t frighten easily. He was curious. Furthermore, he felt compelled to understand his new normal. Why would a ghost want to haunt him? And why now? The answer was clear. However, the solution was not. Back then, acceptance felt like the right thing to do. Just go along with it.
He went along with it. Before long the haunting was no more than routine noise making. Although he had to commend them. Or it. He was impressed with the determination. The commitment was convincing. If not for Leonard knowing there’s no such thing as ghosts, he might have been hoodwinked for years. Of course none of that really mattered at the moment. Currently, Leonard has observations on his side. And soon he will solve his mystery.

For their part, they refuse to be visible. In fact, they prefer looking like ghosts. No one expects a ghost to answer questions. They live in the walls. Or under the floor. Sometimes they call the attic home. However, the rules are always in effect. No one sees them. Ever. They keep to themselves. If they need something they trade for it. They are always fair, but will not tolerate being cheated. Therefore, they prefer not to be visible.
