A new way home with Butterbeans
There is rain. But inside it is warm. She can smell the flowers, and hear their thirst. They absorb the rain gleefully. She knows Alex is not here. In fact, she is certain he is back at the mine. Now, she carefully adjusts herself. She is wounded, but safe now. Emily Kate is here. She likes Emily Kate.
It is late in the day. And it will be dark soon. She feels worried for Alex. She knows he hasn’t returned. However, she has Emily Kate. Furthermore, she feels happy to see Jared when he returns. The only thing better would be Alex.

The following day she is much better. And it no longer hurts when she moves. Additionally, Alex has returned. She felt ecstatic when he came in early this morning. She felt so relieved and happy that he was okay. However, she could tell something was wrong. Then, for a time, she and Alex sit and think their thoughts. Then she sleeps again.
A New Way Home
Although it only took ten days for Butterbeans to recover enough to go home, it is a miracle she survived at all. The explosion in the underground mine caused extensive damage. Additionally it caused unforeseen happenings. One of which was the sinkhole in the old town cemetery.
Of the few buildings left in the old ghost town, the saloon was the only one to survive the underground mine explosion. Even the old livery stable collapsed. The extent of the damage was not isolated to the old town. Indeed, there were several cave-ins, down in the old mine, that triggered smaller sinkholes in the valley.
Alex spent several days with the Sheriff, and the search and rescue teams as they surveyed the old mine. They found the treasure. In fact, they found a lot of things that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. It seemed the outlaw Jack Seevers was more notorious than was previously known. In fact, it was such a bizarre discovery that a historical archives team had to be called in to help.
Butterbeans
They are home. She is excited and happy. Furthermore, there is no sign of any ghost. Butterbeans is aware that something otherworldly took place. She knows the events in the mines were a catalyst. There was so much happening in the old abandoned ghost town, but it was all anchored in the past.
She is sitting with Jared. They are watching Alex and Emily Kate prepare the food for their dinner. Butterbeans knows they are a family now. It is also possible to see that Alex and Emily Kate have become closer. It has been a long time since she has seen Alex smile so much.
Later that evening Butterbeans is watching Jared and Alex examine the list of artifacts from the hiding place in the mine. Their excited conversation carries her into a comfortable snooze. She dreams about the ghost of Jack Seevers, and the old mine. Then she dreams about grass and running. When she awakens, Jared and Emily Kate have left for the evening, and it is just her and Alex now.
A New Way Home With Butterbeans
One month later they are back home. But only briefly. They are no longer a search and rescue team for the military base. In fact, they are moving.
Butterbeans takes a minute to explore her home, one last time. After this, she will be living on the ranch, with Alex and Emily Kate. Furthermore, Jared has promised many more treasure hunts. Considering the fun they had on their previous adventure, she couldn’t wait to get started.
