All in the way it appeared to be

It was hidden in plain sight. That was one of the things that made it so effective. It blended in with whatever place it was in. Most of the time its presence was unknown, until it was too late. That was only because its camouflage was so effective. In fact, it’s meant to be a trap. The ones responsible for designing it had a clear goal in mind. Capture as many as possible.

It first appeared, or more precisely, we first noticed it, near the end of the sixteenth century. It appeared on a small island. The island is off the coast of another place. A place called North Carolina. Back then the area was a wilderness. However, there were people there. Very soon after, the anomaly appeared. And all the people disappeared. Without a trace.

We felt astounded, to say the least. In fact, we were unable to find any trace of them. We did find the anomaly. It was a close one too. Several of our top scientists almost went through the gap themselves. For over two months we had the chance to observe the anomaly before it vanished. Taking all the people with it. To where? We really have no idea. Who are we? Well, that is a little easier to explain.

All In The Way

The next time we discovered the strange energy, it was all in the way it camouflaged itself. Again. Its ability to blend seamlessly with its surroundings is its greatest trick. By the time its presence registers, it’s too late. Furthermore, it is such a perfect blending of space, and atmosphere, that even we would fall into it if not for our ability to see it. This is one of the things that make it so effective. Against humans.

We came here a long time ago. When we first arrived, the inhabitants were starting a new age. In fact, it’s one of the reasons we chose this place. After centuries of searching, we finally found alien life in our galaxy. Primitive compared to our own, we decided to observe only. It was more of a learning experience for us. And we learned that they called themselves humans. However, it still felt strange that we were not alone in the universe.

It was the strange anomaly that changed things. For example, it took us a little time to understand that the humans couldn’t see it. That is why they fell into it so easily. Furthermore, we haven’t a clue what happens to any being that falls into the void. Or anomaly. It is something we are unfamiliar with, and our best scientists can only hypothesize. However, we do consider it a danger to the inhabitants that live on this word

It Appeared to Be Not There

The next time we encountered it, it was in the sea. Near one of the larger land masses. We believe the area has the name, Bermuda Triangle. Once again, all those who came into contact with it, simply disappeared. There are other instances of this anomaly showing up in multiple cities. Sometimes it remains for weeks. Other times it is gone within a day.

With this in mind, we didn’t select this planet because of the anomaly. Furthermore, we are an unknown. In as much as we can detect. We do know that humans are unaware of our presence. Whoever is responsible for the anomaly that captures unsuspecting humans, may or may not, know about our observations. It is a big universe after all. We didn’t know about them. Until long after we were here.

Which brings us to our current dilemma. The trap is set once again. Only this time it is the size of a small city. A decision to intervene came from a referendum of our top scientists. However, it carries great risk. If we are to help the inhabitants of this world, we must expose ourselves.
