But do they really love them?
It was a question that came up from out of nowhere. It’s a complicated question depending on lots of things. However, it was a rather deep question for a six year old.
Furthermore, the subject was a video game. Or to be exact, the characters in the game. Admittedly I hadn’t been expecting this line of questioning. Recently, we have been more into how things work. This topic of interest, and line of questioning, were surprising. And precious, in my opinion.
With this in mind, it felt like the most basic answer would be best. I said, “Yes, I believe they really do love them”, and left it there. This is when the line of questioning can expand rapidly.
And it did, with the next question, “Why?”
Well, now it was complicated in a whole new way. The many elements and kinds of love, were some of the first things, that came to mind. However, the little guy waiting for an answer wasn’t looking for a lecture. That much I was sure of. He was just curious about love.
Here is where it seemed focusing on one of the qualities of love might help most. I tried to make the answer complete but easy, “Because they feel happy from their love, and want to share it”, he is now watching me closely. This is when I realize there is something happening. There is an understanding that is being sought.
Parents who care for their children know how important these moments are. They may appear random, or happen at random times. Such as when a video game is being played. However, they are monumental to the little one.
It went very well. The rest of the day there were many questions about who loved who. For example, do rabbits love squirrels? Of course without evidence to the contrary, we had to rely on the fact that the rabbits are not hating on the squirrels. So they don’t not love them.
Additionally there is great inspiration on Google with a search on love. We tried it! Had a good chuckle about our search for love! Try it out, and thanks for reading today!
