Butterbeans and level 113 revealed

The level is quiet as Alex and Butterbeans make their way to the elevator. They haven’t seen one agent. It has been quiet the entire time since their arrival. Alex checks the hallway just outside the room where they arrived. It is clear. He moves forward, careful to move slowly and deliberately.

Butterbeans follows Alex into the hallway. Now they are side by side and begin moving toward the elevator. They are moving and this is good. Once they reach the elevator it will be a brief trip to the top. Butterbeans is excited to be on the move and working to stop the rogue agents. Furthermore, she knows Alex has a plan.

Butterbeans and Level 113 Revealed

Moving toward their goal has the effect of rejuvenating both Alex and Butterbeans. In fact this is the first time since finding the old temple that he has felt ahead of the rogue agents. They are moving cautiously. Alex is expecting a confrontation. However he cannot predict when.

They reach the elevator doors and Alex pushes the button to summon the elevator. It arrives moments later. Furthermore it is empty. Alex breathes a sigh of relief. They need only reach the top level. From there the base commander would be calling the shots.

Butterbeans and level 113 revealed

As he is thinking this, Alex suddenly feels a sense of unease. It is worsened by the eerie silence that has been heavy in the air. He whispers their code word for stop, and he and Butterbeans pause just outside the open elevator door.

Level 113

Sergeant Smith follows the Lieutenant to the edge of the strange looking portal. Then he waits patiently as she considers their options. They had just confronted and subdued six of the rogue agents. Furthermore they now have to decide how they will return to the surface.

The Sergeant is all for the obvious. He has seen Alex and Butterbeans jump into the liquid looking glass twice. Therefore he feels certain the portal is safe. However they will have to work with whatever decision the Lieutenant makes.

The Sergeant looks over the rogue agents. They are now prisoners. However the Sergeant isn’t sure how they will handle this, without reinforcements. Which is why he is stunned when the Lieutenant turns quickly and says, “follow me”. Then jumps headlong into the portal. The Sergeant does not hesitate. Not so much as a second. He leaps in after the Lieutenant.

Butterbeans

Butterbeans is holding quietly beside Alex. She can sense his unease. Indeed she feels it too. They had almost stepped right into the waiting elevator car. As they stand just outside the open door of the elevator car two rogue agents drop from the ceiling of the elevator.

Alex and Butterbeans scramble backwards. Alex is relieved they were not in the elevator car, or they would already be captured. He steps in front of Butterbeans, and gets ready, as the rogue agents close in. They will have to keep their wits about them, if they are going to escape this time.
