Butterbeans and the last temple

Alex runs even faster after hearing the explosion. Butterbeans is ahead, and pouring on the speed. They might make it, if they can get past the blast zone. The ground beneath Alex’s feet trembles and bucks. He nearly trips but keeps his footing.

Up ahead Butterbeans has made it out of the dense foliage and taken flight for real. Alex bursts forth from the thick underbrush and finds his footing. Then he pours on the speed to catch up to Butterbeans. Up ahead he can see what they were warned about. Furthermore, he feels stunned at the enormity of what he is seeing.

He continues running, even though they are safer now, than when they had arrived here. As he runs he wonders where here is, actually. Additionally he wonders how long before the Special Agent catches up to them again. They had almost had a disaster just before arriving here. Coincidentally they had been able to escape a much worse fate.

The strange being of light had confirmed Butterbeans’ curiosity. The special agent tried to shut down the Eternity gate. Furthermore, it had been to the detriment of all. This, more than anything, had unsettled Alex. He could not bring himself to believe that the Sergeant or the Lieutenant would participate in this.

Now, as they near the temple, Alex wonders how they will ever be able to leave this place. He feels certain the explosion will have destroyed the gate. The temple, for its part, is enormous and occupies the fullest area of the underground cavern they arrived in. It is also ancient by the look of it.

Round Two

The Lieutenant looks at the Sergeant. He is still unconscious and slumped against the cavern wall. Their struggle was short. Ultimately they hadn’t stopped the Special Agent. Going against their orders had been a calculated risk. However, the Lieutenant did not abandon team mates. Whether regular military or not.

The Special Agent had gone rogue. Furthermore, with the reinforcements, the Agent had been able to subdue, both the Sergeant and the Lieutenant. They had managed to divert enough of the explosive gas to prevent the complete destruction of the strange portal. However, the Special Agent was coordinating another attempt. And this time, neither the Lieutenant nor the Sergeant, would be able to help.

Butterbeans

Butterbeans is finally able to stretch her legs. It feels good to run so she runs faster. It is even more fun because she knows Alex is running behind her trying to keep up. She runs faster, and watches the strange old place grow nearer. She is glad to be away from the loud work.

Furthermore she knows this place is important. Their friend explained its importance, and made sure they arrived ahead of the trouble. Now she runs, and then runs faster. They will be there soon.
