Butterbeans and the surface sprint
The Sergeant thumbs the elevator button again. There is still no indication the car is moving down to this level. He jabs it a couple of more times and then turns back to look at the Lieutenant. They are ready to join their friends on the surface, just one level above.
The situation is more perilous than they thought at first. The two rogue agents they had just barely stopped, were now spilling the beans to the Lieutenant. The agent’s involvement in an extensive plan to take over the base was of great concern. Furthermore, it seems that Alex and Butterbeans have just walked right into a trap.
The Sergeant jabs the elevator button again. A few times. He continues to listen while the Lieutenant questions the rogue agents. They will need all the info they can get, if they hope to have a chance to help their friends. The odds might be against them but they are determined to see this mission through to the end.
Butterbeans and the surface sprint
The elevator doors open, and chaos reigns. Alex and Butterbeans have arrived in the middle of an intense confrontation. They immediately hunker down in the elevator car. There are small popping sounds from above as several objects strike the ceiling of the elevator.
From what Alex can see, there is a battle between the rogue agents and the forces assigned to the base. Furthermore, the base commander is among the defenders. Alex can’t help but feel they are involved in something much bigger, as he checks to make sure he still has the artifact.
With this in mind, he decides their only way out is through. He looks at Butterbeans. She gives him a brief tail wag and returns his gaze. They are on the same page. Therefore, Alex takes the artifact and places it in the small pouch Butterbeans is wearing. They might only have one chance, so Alex is banking on their best chance.
The chaos, outside the elevator doors, intensifies. Additionally, it appears they have been spotted, as the rogue agents begin to advance toward the elevator. It is time for them to move. Alex looks at Butterbeans one more time as they hunker in the elevator. Then he quickly shares his plan, “Get the artifact to the commander. He will know what to do with it. Run fast!”
Butterbeans Sprint
She could hear the fighting from down below as they got in the elevator. Furthermore, she could sense important things hanging in the balance. They are fighting to complete their mission. And others are fighting to stop them. She is with Alex in the hopes they will be able to help. Things are looking grim at the moment.
With this in mind, she hunkers down with Alex as the elevator doors open. There is much activity, and the smells of smoke and sulfur are strong. Alex looks at her with calm eyes, and places the artifact gift into her utility pouch. Then he asks her to go to the base commander.
Butterbeans
There is commotion all around and the chances for their escape are getting slimmer by the second. Alex looks at her once more and she looks at him. They must hurry now. She gets ready, as Alex stands. Then, on their go word, Butterbeans runs with all her might. She runs at full sprint, as the chaos erupts all around.
