Butterbeans and the upward path

Butterbeans and the upward trail

It doesn’t take long to find the path. A hidden door behind the back wall of the temple, revealed the path. However, it was Butterbeans and her tracking skill to the rescue. Within a few minutes they are moving quickly through an ancient underground cave.

Alex knows they are deep underground. Furthermore, he is only able to speculate at their actual depth. They had used the Eternity gate twice, therefore, they had traveled unknown distances. He learned much from the meeting with the unusual beings of light.

With his in mind, he feels certain they are traveling in a circuitous direction. One that will lead them to the surface again. Eventually. It was important they make it there before they were stopped by the rogue agent. In fact, Alex knows more now, than he did before. There is much at stake, he and Butterbeans are the best chance at stopping the agent before disaster strikes.

Butterbeans and the upward trail

The path is damp and smells of old. Very old. She knows they are moving in the right direction. Additionally she knows the agent that is chasing them is falling further behind. This is good news. She pads along even quicker. They need to get even further away. All the way back to the top.

Butterbeans and the upward path

Butterbeans feels eager to return to the sunshine and fresh scents of the outside world. She stops for a moment to examine a peculiar scent. However, it is more of the old scent masked by some other creature’s trail. They must be moving upward at last.

She feels more excited now, and checks to see if Alex is still following. They are on a very old path. Their friend had shown them the way. This is their chance to get back to the surface, and get help for their friends. Butterbeans knows that she and Alex are the right team to accomplish this. She also knows they will have to be extremely careful.

Upward Trail

The Lieutenant looks at the Sergeant and knows what he is thinking almost immediately. They are under guard and the Special Agent has taken over the entire mission. Furthermore, the agent is trying to destroy the strange portal. The strange liquid glass object they had been sent to recon. The same place Alex and Butterbeans had last been seen.

There are too many for them to fight alone. Indeed, that had led to where they are now. However, the Lieutenant knows that once they are topside, the tables will be turned. For one thing the Special Agent was operating on a clandestine agenda. The Lieutenant knew first hand, the commander of this base would take issue with that immediately. Therefore, they had a rogue agent on their hands.

Although this was bad enough, it didn’t compare to the worry the Lieutenant had for the rest of her team. They had lost contact with Alex and Butterbeans. Furthermore she is certain they are in danger. The agent will stop at nothing to achieve his nefarious goals.

Alex pauses along the path and tries the screen again. It is still of no use. They are at a depth that prevents the signal from reaching them. Furthermore he cannot rule out interference from the cave walls surrounding them. It looked as though they were going to have to be closer to the surface before they could communicate with command.

Butterbeans

Just ahead the path branches into two identical paths. Between the dark interior of the cave and the winding of the path, Alex can no longer see Butterbeans. Furthermore, he feels a sense of immediate alarm when he hears Butterbeans start barking and snarling ferociously, somewhere in the distance ahead.

He takes off running toward the sounds of his friend in conflict. Likewise he runs to the left and hopes he is choosing the right path. The sounds of struggle from up ahead intensify. Likewise Alex begins running full out. His friend is in trouble, and there is no time to lose.
