Butterbeans and vanishing returns

Alex can see his friend pressed tightly against the cliff face. Butterbeans is looking back at him, as the strange creature begins its return from below. From his vantage point Alex sees everything unfolding in slow motion.

The Sergeant kneels beside Alex and offers him a harness for climbing. Alex wastes no time and in seconds is over the edge. Furthermore, the Lieutenant has joined the Sergeant and they are both able to easily lower Alex down to Butterbeans.

Butterbeans and Vanishing returns

Once Alex reaches her, Butterbeans leaps to him and they are happily reunited. However, their time was running out, and the creature from down below was closing in. Alex looks up at the Sergeant and shouts for them to pull.

Within seconds they are back at the tattered edges of level 113. Butterbeans leaps to the landing and Alex follows. The Sergeant motions for them to follow the Lieutenant. Then he prepares to cover their escape.

With this in mind Alex and Butterbeans waste no time catching up with the Lieutenant. In fact, they make it in good time. Also the elevator is still intact. Alex feels a sense of relief at the welcome sight. Furthermore, it was their only way up and out. As they gather in the waiting elevator car the ground gives a mighty rumble, and heaves.

They are all shaken off their feet, and Alex keeps a firm hold on Butterbeans. They are still waiting on the Sergeant to join them as the doors begin to close. The Lieutenant presses against the doors and holds them, as the Sergeant appears. He is running pell mell, and shouting for them to go!

The floor of the elevator car heaves. It unsettles all of them, and they are dropped to the floor again. Alex can see the corridor behind the Sergeant filling with activity. Mostly chaos. However they are able to proceed as soon as the Sergeant leaps into the elevator car.

The car rockets upwards and the team holds their breath. Butterbeans, yips at Alex quietly, as a cacophony begins from below. Furthermore, the sound is growing in intensity. They are being pursued. Aggressively.
