Butterbeans’ two scents worth
Butterbeans finishes her plate and cleans it carefully. She always tries to help Alex clean up. The food is base food. It is good. However, she prefers how Alex prepares her food when they are home. She moves off to get a drink and then explore. They would be leaving soon.
She trots to the preparation area outside the tent. This area is ripe with smells. Lots of activity. Additionally there is the smell of the creature from below. Its scent is carried almost everywhere in this area. Butterbeans, feels like it is much larger than her friends know.
Butterbeans’ two scents worth
She trots out to the area they had been in earlier. The scent of the creature is stronger here. When she had been a pup, she had encountered other creatures in the wild. Indeed, much of hers and Alex’s training had been in the wilderness.
Butterbeans had picked up the scent of many different kinds of creatures. Some were caring for offspring. Others were hunting prey. She had been so tempted to follow the enticing scents, every time she had encountered a new one. At first she did.
It had taken her many weeks, and many trials, to finally resist the urge to chase down every scent. Furthermore she had become more adept at knowing which scents were which. Now she could catch the scent of a parent with offspring, almost immediately.
She trots around the grounds just outside the preparation area. Now she is picking up new scents. Additionally, there are more than a few. As she explores the area more intensely she begins to realize what she is picking up.
Two Scents
Alex is finishing his plate when he notices Butterbeans is gone. He isn’t too concerned. He knows she has restless energy to work off. Once he finishes going over the last few details with the lieutenant, he takes a break from the festivities.
He walks out into the compound. However, the day is waning, and the sun has settled against the horizon. The temperature is cool and Alex wonders if the snow will cover the mountains tonight as the weather station has predicted. It isn’t something they will have to worry about.
Furthermore he expected their mission to last at least twenty four hours based on what the Lieutenant had just revealed. Alex walks further out into the darkening compound. Finally, he sees Butterbeans trotting toward him. He can tell she is still feeling her nervous energy. He pats her head as she presses up against his legs. It would be okay, they were about to get started. One way or another.
