Colossal mountain and the tiny ant trail.

The mountain looms over them as they wade through the heavy forest. Logan watches the giant’s feet as they carefully avoid all the trees of the forest. They are so high up in the giant’s hands that they can see frightened birds scattering from the tree tops far below them. He looks over at Ariel in the giant’s other hand, and sees that she too is observing their journey toward the distant mountain. Ariel looks back at Logan and shrugs. They are going to the mountain, but for what reason remains a mystery.

Inside Colossal Mountain

“Ouch! Watch where you’re going Ariel! You just stepped on my toe.” Logan stands on one foot and rubs the toe of his other foot. The path ahead of them goes on into darkness. Ariel shines her flashlight down the long tunnel. It is very helpful to have a flashlight, and they have a few other things too. Things like a strange radio, that lets them talk to the giant, who is actually waiting just outside Colossal Mountain. There is no way anyone larger than Logan or Ariel can fit into this tunnel anyway. One thing is for certain, the giant needs their help.

After about fifteen minutes, they come to a branch in the tunnel. Ariel looks at Logan, “Well, which way? Left or right?” Now it’s his turn to shrug his shoulders.

“I’m not sure, call the giant on the radio. He’ll know which way to go.” Ariel looks at Logan and raises an eyebrow in surprise.

“Are you telling me that you trust the giant?” her voice lilts upward on the last word. “Actually, we’ve already come this far. So maybe we should just try to get this treasure and get back home before Grammy knows we’re gone.” And with that Ariel radios the giant who is waiting patiently outside for his treasure.

The Tiny Ant Trail

The tunnel narrows as they move deeper into the mysterious mountain. Additionally, they took the tunnel to the right, because the giant said the tunnel to the left, was a trap. That is all fine and good as far as Ariel is concerned. She is pretty sure the giant will help them get to the treasure. However, she isn’t sure how they will remove it from the mountain. Maybe the giant didn’t notice, but they are like ants compared to a giant. How in the world will they carry a giant treasure from the depths of this mountain?

“There’s a door” Ariel jumps at the sudden sound of Logan’s voice. She was lost in her own thoughts and hadn’t noticed that Logan was stopped and staring at the sealed door in front of them. Furthermore, it was a normal sized door. Made for a normal sized person. Not a giant. In fact, his unusual detail is not lost on Ariel as she radios the giant. The door has a large lock on it and unless there is a key under the welcome mat, they are stuck right here. And there is no welcome mat.

She looks at Logan while they wait for the giant to respond on the radio. Ariel shines her flashlight back down the tunnel. They could turn back now, but how would they ever get home? The radio crackles to life with the giant giving them a special knock to open the door. Once again Logan looks at Ariel in surprise. What kind of treasure are they going to find behind this door that doesn’t even have a key? Ariel knocks on the door exactly how the giant instructs on the radio, and the door unlatches.

The Treasure of Colossal Mountain

Logan and Ariel push the tunnel door open. It swings inward. The space behind the door is in total darkness. In fact, neither Logan nor Ariel can see anything beyond the opening. Logan shines his flashlight into the darkness where more darkness swallows the flashlight beam. The space beyond the door, must be a mountain cavern of immense size if their flashlight beams cannot penetrate the darkness.

Logan leads the way with Ariel right on his heels. They step into the darkness of the room behind the door. First Logan, then Ariel. The radio crackles to life and the giant’s booming voice comes through the tiny speaker. “Be careful on that first step” the giant gives the warning. However, it’s a bit too late, because on the next step Logan’s foot finds nothing but air. His arms pinwheel and flail as he tries to keep his balance.

Then Ariel grabs him by the shirt to try and help. However, her foot also steps into thin air. Then they are falling. Fast and even deeper into the mountain. They tumble and spin. Additionally, the walls of the tunnel begin to glow and change color as they fall. Until, at last, they find themselves falling into the open air. A moment later and – Splash! Their fall is broken by a large underground pond.

Treasure Room

The pond glows all around them as they wade to the shore. Once they are on dry land it’s easier to see where they have landed. They are in a giant cavern inside the mountain. The pond is vast and carries on to the far reaches of the cavern. However, it’s the object on the opposite shore that draws their attention. Even from here they can see that it is a large treasure chest. Logan looks at Ariel to see if she sees the treasure chest and is surprised to see her attention on something else in the cavern.

Logan follows the direction of Ariel’s gaze and sees that she’s looking at something in the pond water. He freezes as he realizes that they are looking at a very large pair of eyes. Furthermore, it’s a pair of eyes that are staring right back at Logan and Ariel.
