Family Reunion

It was cold. However, the crisp coolness of the tea truly hits the spot, as Eric sips and watches Emma. They are alone now, and have only just begun comparing notes. In fact, after the enigmatic Callisto left, they simply began getting ready for dinner. Of course there was much to talk about. Furthermore, at least two of their long time questions were finally answered.

With this in mind, they decided by mutual silent consent that they would talk once dinner was ready. Therefore it is with deep interest that Eric listens as Emma describes her experience with the giant who drove the limousine.

“And then he says, Callisto says no one is to disturb them!” She raises her eyebrows and looks at Eric with shocked indignation. “Can you believe the nerve of that…that, goon?” Her voice raises much higher on the last word. She sets the plate of food she’s holding on the table, and sits down across from Eric. He takes another slow sip of tea before responding.

“My goon, had a detective’s stolen badge and gun. Furthermore, he was walking in the house before I could do so much as blink.” Eric pauses to sip some more tea. This stuff is good he thinks. He continues, but slower this time, this is pretty serious after all.

“I’m not sure if I can believe everything we talked about. However, he knew too much to be an impostor.” Eric looks at Emma and smiles when she nods ever so slightly. Her eyes are far away. And she’s grown very quiet. She’s on to something.

Callisto reads the message again. Shit! he thinks, as the implications begin to present themselves. How could she have found out so quickly? He runs one of the biggest companies in the world. And has thousands of employees. And yet, no one truly knows who he is. Furthermore, anyone from his past would only assume him to be lost in the war.

Then how did she find out? He reads the message again. This time he asks the inside of the limousine how could she have found out? The last person he wanted to encounter on this little adventure, was his sister. Therefore he begins a careful reassessment of his entire staff. The most recently hired first. Five minutes later he abandons that idea. Something Tiny says completely distracts him.

Tiny has been his driver for years. He doubles as a bodyguard from time to time. However, Callisto hired him to drive. Mainly because he seldom speaks. Therefore, when he does, it matters. This time it was a statement. In fact, he was really only saying what was in the letter.

“She asks if the young lady knows who she is.” The giant Tiny falls silent for a moment. Then he speaks again, as if to conclude his thought. “She says it’s time for the truth to come out.” Callisto listens in silence. Truth indeed he thinks.

The Retrieval of Jupiter’s Heart

Detective Laraby watches the lumbering giant get into the limousine. He already has the plate number and a description of the guy in the back. However, he wasn’t taking any chances. They got the drop on him once. He wasn’t about to let it happen again. The next family reunion was going to be Laraby’s show.

He pulls the Sedan out onto the road and begins following the limousine. Not too closely though. When it was time to strike, he wanted to make it count. He was still sore about his stolen badge and gun. He intended to make the payback count.
