Home schooling challenges, a better path for learning.
Going to school is a part of life. Most everyone goes to school when they are young. At first it was fun. Lots of recess and lunchtime and then some learning about the development of the tax code. If it wasn’t the tax code, it might just as well have been. Letters and their combinations are meaningless until learned. And learning to read is first on the list of things to learn. At least, it used to be.
This article is largely opinion. It is based in part on first hand experience. Although the element of time is a factor. For example, home schooling has evolved in 2026, compared to 1994. In fact, the difference is almost like night and day. However, compared to the early nineties today’s education system has many shortcomings. This isn’t a reflection on a particular policy. The policy should always be the betterment of the children participating in the education system.
A Grandparent can weigh in on these matters. Especially one that went with home schooling when their children were in the education system. This particular Grandparent has experience with the United States school system. That information is relevant to the readers of this blog. Some reside in other countries. However, most parents consider it an imperative to help their children learn. If a school system is available, that is one way to meet this imperative.
Home Schooling Challenges
Home schooling is not easy. It was much less common a few decades ago. Parents had to spend much time researching the rules and the obscure guidelines of the day. In the early nineties this was more of a manual process. Meaning the library was the only place to find relevant information since the world wide web was in its infancy. Furthermore, there were no devices or tablets or smart watches. Parents were responsible for a lot of administrative paperwork and record keeping that is largely obsolete in today’s world.
Home schooling in the early 1990s was far more difficult to start and sustain than in 2026. Due to legal uncertainty, scarce materials, and almost no digital tools, it was a daily challenge. Today it is easier to implement. Ready made curricula, online platforms and adaptive software help enormously. Furthermore, there are many community support systems and forums.
In other words, technology advanced home schooling in a beneficial way. However, curriculum selection, and choices are still important. One of the biggest hurdles to overcome back then, was the curriculum. That is a detailed process that matters so much it deserves an independent article. The intent of this article is to support parents who choose home schooling this year. It’s a great choice. Just so you know, parents were actually doing it in the nineties.
A Better Path for Learning
It isn’t a secret that children involved in home schooling, learn. However, it is an involved process for the parents. In 2026, home schooling is possible everywhere. The legal concerns long vanished into the mists of time. Although regulations still vary, the process is routine and widely understood. Additionally, education savings accounts (ESAs) and related programs now let families use public funds for curricula, tutoring, and materials.
It’s a completely different process in today’s world. In the early 1990s, it was still a learning process for parents. In 2026 the parents can make sure the focus is on learning. Things like reading and writing. And learning math and how to apply it. That’s a lot for a kid to learn. However, who better to teach them than the parents that love them? Or the parents that have a personal interest in their well being?
