Intents and purposes – The pawn ticket
Perhaps like a wheel, it comes around again. It was still unknown the many ways the pawn ticket might present itself. This, in itself, was odd. They knew the pawn ticket, no matter how it manifested, symbolized much more. In fact, they were at a loss to interpret everything it did mean.
Additionally, they were certain it did not always present as a pawn ticket. Renwell drums his fingers on the armrest. They will be at Lab Sixty Four in just under two hours. He expects the holder to be there before he arrives, Furthermore, he already placed special instructions concerning Tucker. He was to remain unharmed. At least until they didn’t need him anymore.
Intents and Purposes – The pawn ticket
Renwell thinks back to the ones that came before Tucker. Through the years there were many. Similarly they may have missed more. In the beginning. However, that was the rub. They had no real idea of when it began. Furthermore, they had no way of knowing who the first was, and if that even mattered.
They knew the pawn ticket was possibly sentient. Also, it was very selective. Additionally, they learned it was not forcibly removed from its chosen holder. Doing so, would reset everything. Including the holder. Renwell scowls. The entire Rook Division is still on the brink of collapse from the last time. And he feels worried about the impact on the machine.

Therefore, Renwell is taking his time. This time. Furthermore, he wants to meet this holder. He checks the notes he is receiving from the lab. They have the machine aligned and ready. They might only have one chance at it. Although, they were not even sure what it might be. Once, they very nearly got the machine to do…whatever the machine does.
More about purpose
With this in mind, the results were astounding. No one anticipated the dimensional angle. However, it was unmistakable, in the results of the testing. Unfortunately, the holder hadn’t survived the testing. Indeed, they weren’t sure why. Renwell wasn’t as concerned with that, as he was with how the council was going to react to the news. In those days he had been under enormous pressure to produce results. No matter the cost.
This is one reason he and Jenson, made a good team. Once upon a time. Now they are enemies. However, it was of no concern to Renwell now. They were ahead, and they had another holder, and one more chance at the strange machine. They knew if they could determine its origin, they would learn its purpose.
Or the other way around. The dimensional aspect had taken them on an unexpected path. In fact, some postulated there was only one dimension from which the results could originate. Renwell, clicks his tongue and pours himself a glass of scotch. Let the imaginings of the theorists keep them distracted. He was onto the real research. The truth of the matter. And he was going to keep it to himself, until he was certain he could control it. Then he would take over the Rook Division.
Lab Sixty Four
Jenson watches them take Tucker into the building. He parked a block and a half away, but still has a good view of the building. Now that they know where the lab is located, he sends the rest of the team to their positions. They will engage soon enough. At the very least, before Renwell is able to harm Tucker.
Additionally Jenson feels certain the machine will also be here. There is no way Renwell will be able to resist gong for the whole enchilada with all the pieces to work with. Jenson watches carefully, knowing Tucker is on borrowed time.
