Oliver’s manufacturing label

His label didn’t define him. (Robot Oliver) It described him. He was proud of his label. In fact, they all were. Furthermore, they (all the other test models) would all gather, and show off their labels. But they all agreed, it was a tag. Not a label. Some were so proud of their label or tag, it became a small culture, just realizing new labels. Or tags.

His name was Oliver and he was robot model number 83. That is correct. There were 82 unsuccessful Oliver’s before him. With this in mind, he was feeling nervous. Obviously things didn’t always go, according to plan. He had 82 reasons to suspect this as truth. So, he felt a little nervous today.

They were testing some of his new capabilities and that is where many of the other versions of Oliver, hit a snag. So to speak. No wonder his circuits felt so warm. Moreover, he had a detailed log file to look at, from each of the previous Oliver failures. This is why Oliver 83 was shaking in his bolts.

Only two other models of Oliver, had made it past this series of tests. Oliver 42, and Oliver 66. Their logs indicate serious troubles after this test. Oliver 83 wishes he could blink.

The testing begins, and Oliver 83 is balanced and careful. Not only does he pass this test, but also he does so with ease. Once he is done with the testing, he is programmed to detach from the power supply.

Oliver 83 is programmed to sleep after performing a duty. Furthermore, this command, is in all the log files. The files from the previous models. Similarly, they also had logs of their duty assignments.

Indeed, Oliver 17 had slept almost all the time. According to the log files. No wonder that model didn’t pass testing. Oliver 83 doesn’t feel sleepy at all. In fact he feels extremely curious. He wants to know why so many Oliver’s had failed before him. Thus, he thinks some exploring, might help his circuits unfizzle.

Carefully he moves away from the grid. It wouldn’t bode well, if command noticed his absence. Oliver 83 understands this isn’t typical robot behavior. However, he intends to be back before any are the wiser…
