Pocket Wilderness conflict – Anna’s Plan
(Author note: This is a continuation of one fictional story in the frog journal. Any similarities between real world events or persons or organizations is coincidental. No animals were consulted in the writing of this story. All correspondence was sent via pond mail.)
This was it. The moment they had feared had come. Anna waddles to and fro in their nesting area. She checks the pond mail messages again. Nothing. It is unlike Dan to miss a chance to message and check on Anna and the hatchlings.
This doesn’t bode well. She had been worried about him meeting with Roy the Rowdy. Things had changed in the pocket wilderness. Furthermore, nothing was safe anymore. Anna didn’t need to look far to see the truth. Times were changing. Though, not for the better.
Pocket Wilderness Conflict
She nudges the first hatchling out of the nest. The rest would follow. She and Dan had rehearsed this several times. Additionally, it was their backup plan. And they had to move quickly. Once she begins this, they will have to follow through. Leaving the pocket wilderness was their only chance. Similarly, Anna wonders if Dan is okay.

She leads the hatchlings along the back trail. They would not be using the pond. Furthermore they would be staying in the tall grass for most of the journey. However they would come to an obstacle in due time.
With this in mind she did her best not to hurry. Their obstacle was terrifying, and few knew its dangers. Likewise the hatchlings didn’t know. However it was the absolute way to leave the pocket wilderness. The way which guaranteed no strange pocket wilderness politics could follow.
Their journey takes most of the morning. They stop for rest once, and Anna confirms no message from Dan. They are committed now. There is no turning back. The pond would have been much quicker. However, it would have been too risky. There was only danger in the pond now.
Anna’s Plan
Within the hour they reach the obstacle Anna has been fearing. Furthermore, it is much busier than usual today. A large truck roars past on the road in front of them. Anna shudders, her worry almost becoming overwhelming. Indeed she briefly considers going back.
But what of Dan, and their plan? How could Anna help Dan from another wilderness altogether? Another large truck roars past. The hatchlings are frightened. Anna will get them to safety. Then she will help Dan. Turning to gather the hatchlings, Anna comes face to bill, with Flo the Fox.
“Hello Anna, going somewhere?”
