Retro television and the best names from the past

It’s some of the best TV out there these days. It’s witty, in touch, and has many interesting story lines. Similarly there are commercials. Particularly for the nostalgic ones who appreciate the irony, of old meets new. Of course, this is in regard to retro television. And any channel offering a retro television experience, is worth watching.

If the show is interesting. Or relevant. However, this is the past we’re revisiting. And it’s been said those who don’t learn from the past, are doomed to repeat it. It’s possible the great John Wayne, would appreciate that. Furthermore, it’s sometimes uncanny how some of the old shows, align with today’s times. It’s like the past is somehow repeating itself.

That is an interesting thing to observe. Especially when watching an old comedy classic like the Carrol Burnette show. Not only is the show a time capsule of those times but also an unconventional history lesson. Now that’s educational TV!

Retro Television

Once upon a time things were different. In fact, some things were so different they were new. It was the good old days. The crazy thing was hearing someone say, one day these will be the good old days. Particularly during a Raymond Burr show. One of his more notable shows, was Perry Mason.

However, if it’s got to be something intense, with an inevitable twist, then almost anything with Allen Alda will do. As I look back over this article I see an impressive list of names already, and it’s barely even the tip of the ice berg.

Lucille Ball and Vicki Lawrence are also on this impressive list of the past. As well as Redd Foxx and Demond Wilson. And the list could go on for days. The best part of this list is having the chance to see these old shows and experience the talent of their original stars. Because back in those days, it was the star who made the show.

Similarly there were only shows if the stars showed up and performed. In many of those old retro shows, they worked in front of a live audience. Talk about a slim margin for error. This meant only one take in many cases.

That kind of TV was unique. Furthermore it was the same as shooting from the hip each time. Sometimes they just ran with it. Then asked questions later. After all the fun. And all the fun was sometimes so obvious they had a hard time concealing it. For example, Harvey Korman and Tim Conway.

Nevertheless, it was the many irregularities and the mix ups, that kept things interesting. It was the unexpected, and unplanned, that made the entertainment fresh and real. And always unpredictable. Thanks for reading today.
