Secrets of the outlaw’s gold with Butterbeans

Alex spent the morning readying their gear. He and Butterbeans are meeting Emily Kate and Jared at noon. The plan is to meet at the entrance of the box canyon. From there they will travel in one vehicle. On the phone, Emily informed Alex that they had found some exciting and mysterious information. What’s more, Emily told Alex she would have to show him their exciting discovery.

Now, as he and Butterbeans make their way to the box canyon, Alex considers all the information they do know. They have stumbled upon something that is unique and mysterious. Furthermore, there is no denying its authenticity. Additionally, it is extremely likely an entity has become attached to the map. Or the key. Or both. Alex looks at Butterbeans. She is watching him closely.

The Outlaw’s Gold

Jared is feeling anxious. They are on their way to meet Alex and Butterbeans. Although he has barely slept, he feels wide awake. He and Emily Kate are on their way back from visiting the historical department on the university campus. What they found out, is astounding, to say the least. Jared still cannot believe how valuable his map, and the key, may be.

Furthermore it is even more intriguing because the map once belonged to an infamous outlaw. In fact, the outlaw disappeared long ago. Sometime in the mid eighteen hundreds. It was shortly after the largest gold robbery in history. A train carrying a large load of gold was ambushed. In those days it would have taken days before any word of foul play reached the ears of those who would help.

Subsequently the gold, and the outlaw, disappeared on the same day. No one ever found out what happened to either one. Jared thinks back to the barely contained excitement of the history professor. He almost did not return the map. Emily Kate had to insist.

Butterbeans

She knows they are returning to the old place. She watched Alex pack all their gear earlier today. Also, he packs their gear whenever they are going to explore. Furthermore, Butterbeans knows this will involve the malevolent entity again. Even now she can sense it is on watch for them. They have not only awakened it, but also angered it.

Butterbeans looks around as they arrive at the box canyon. So far there is no one here but her and Alex. However, she instinctively knows this will change once Emily Kate and Jared arrive. Butterbeans knows Jared has what the entity wants. Therefore, it is very determined. Butterbeans has never encountered an entity that is able to do what this one can do. She is extremely worried for Alex.

Alex and Butterbeans arrive at the same time as Emily Kate and Jared. Alex hops out of his truck, and Butterbeans follows. They all greet one another excitedly. Butterbeans is accepting the lion’s share of the attention. And with an excited tail wag, she leans into Emily Kate for an even better pat down. The excitement is palpable.

Twenty minutes later, they have all their gear loaded into Emily Kate’s Bronco. Once everyone is loaded, Emily Kate takes off for the old ghost town. There is so much information to share, everyone is talking at the same time. Similarly Jared is trying to show Alex the details of the map. Much is happening. So much in fact, that no one sees the Range Rover following them in the distance. No one except Butterbeans.
