Sideways – The retrieval of Jupiter’s heart

It doesn’t take long for things to change. And then, the more they change, the more they stay the same. That was almost the case at 1669 Welshire Lane. The shipping containers were gone. In fact, there was a newly framed house, on the freshly prepared lot. At the back of the lot, there is a small structure. It was once the detached garage of the previous house.

It will also be the detached garage of the new house. The new house is coming together nicely. Much of it was included in the shipping containers. Of course funding the project was not a problem. In fact, funding was something they could do for themselves now. It took several trips to their own safety deposit boxes. And some intricate insurance work. However, Eric and Emma, managed to get everything secure.

Many of the gems they found in the wooden crate, were priceless. Especially the diamonds. It would take them years to fully ascertain their value. And that was just the tip of the iceberg. Eric was certain Benjamin Thomas was much more than just a real estate investor. He and Emma were still searching for clues in all the old records, and details, left in the wooden crate.

Also, they were married now. They found the treasure in the wooden crate. And then discovered it had both their names on it. So then they spent some time sorting. Sorting through the shipping containers. Sorting through their lives. Somewhere in all this activity, they came to realize, they were deeply in love.

Sideways

They were married in a small courthouse ceremony. From there, they spent almost everyday working on the rebuilding of 1669 Welshire Lane. From permits to floor tiles, they have been swamped with details. Similarly, they have been lost in one another. Therefore, it was easy to miss the extra attention they were receiving.

Silent Observance

Detective Laraby is sitting surveillance again this afternoon. In fact, this has become a weekly occurrence now. This small matter he is handling for the Chief is becoming bigger by the day. And still they had nothing. Nada. Zip, zilch, and not a damn thing.

This was one big nothing burger as far as Detective Laraby was concerned. Especially after six weeks of near constant surveillance. However, the Chief thought otherwise. Therefore Detective Laraby is going to have to get creative before this gets sideways. He needs to advance this investigation one way or another. And as he watches the property from the department cruiser, he gets an idea of how he can do just that.

The Retrieval of Jupiter’s Heart

They are just finishing their evening meal, when Eric’s phone rings. He answers it, and listens quietly. After a few moments, he thanks the caller and hangs up. Then he looks at Emma, who is also looking at him. She raises her eyebrows in that way Eric has come to adore. And he can’t help but smile.

“We are all set.” He sits back down at the table. He is intent on finishing his dinner. In mid bite he notices Emma staring at him. She appears to be moderately perplexed. And with raised eyebrows, and an expectant expression, she prompts.

“And?”

Eric finally gets it, and puts down his fork, as he replies., “We are all set for our flight tomorrow. She has agreed to meet with us briefly. We will probably have to wing it from there but I still believe she knows things.”

Sideways

Emma listens quietly and ponders. They discovered Eileen by accident. A small note in some paperwork but it had turned into a valuable clue. Now they were going to fly out and meet this enigmatic woman. As Emma thinks on this she remembers something else.

“Is he still out there?”

Eric looks up from his dinner plate. “Yes the detective is still parked in his usual place.”
