The follow through with Butterbeans

Alex starts after Butterbeans. Clearly he is in shock. He hadn’t expected anything like this. Furthermore, Butterbeans has vanished into the blue water glass.The special agent barks an order for everyone to halt. Alex stops out of reflex. He is watching the blue of the portal shimmer and waver where Butterbeans had jumped through.

The Lieutenant and Sergeant stare at the agent. It is obvious they are conflicted. Moreover, the Sergeant appears to be ready to confront the special agent. Therefore, Alex watches as the Lieutenant radios the surface, for clarity on the orders. The special agent reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out an envelope. Then he hands it to the Lieutenant.

The follow through with Butterbeans

“You’ll find everything you need to know in this envelope. Read fast Lieutenant. Because we have work to do, and doors to slam shut.” The special agent gives a sour smile and draws a cigarette from a pack in his pocket. Then he orders the Sergeant to start unloading the packs they had brought from level 113.

As Alex watches, the Sergeant gives him a quick and knowing look. Alex is sure he meant to do it. With this in mind, Alex makes his decision. Now all he needed was his chance. He concentrates on calming his breathing as he waits. And watches.

The special agent is watching the Lieutenant closely. She reads through the papers from the envelope. Additionally, her expression darkens. She pockets the papers and confirms to the Sergeant that the special agent was in charge while they closed this door.

With this in mind, she looks quickly at Alex, and then moves to help the Sergeant unload the packs. Now Alex is certain of what he must do. Furthermore, time was getting shorter by the minute. He watches as the Sergeant removes several magnetic mines and triggers.

Butterbeans

Alex’s worries galvanize as he sees what the special agent means to do. Not only is he shocked at the thought of losing such an amazing scientific discovery but also his friend is in there. The special agent is looking closely at Alex. Furthermore, he appears to be drawing a weapon from the waistband of his pants.

Alex jumps. He watches as everything unfolds in slow motion. He is in the air above the blue portal glass and he is falling into it. The special agent raises his weapon while watching Alex.

Then Alex is through, and falling into the blue. Additionally, he sees his friend just ahead. She is wagging her tail in anticipation of his arrival. And she is not alone.
