The highly mobile family
The year is 1993. Thirty years ago from the writing of this article. Wow. Thirty years is a long stretch of time. It’s also just a drop in the bucket. The X-Files was the hit show, along with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Also the Simpsons were returning for an extremely anticipated fourth season.
However this article isn’t about the great entertainment available that year. It would have to be a much larger undertaking. It is a thought on the history of the mobile family. It’s about mobility outside the entertainment venue. It does include a drive thru, and not one with a forever wait.
The highly mobile family
The drive-thru of those old days was not a given. Furthermore, only the most popular fast food places had drive thru lanes. It was still considered an outrageously cool thing to be able to get a meal without leaving the car. More people were on the go. Moreover, more families were on the go.
From grocery stores to department stores (Wal-mart) the family was becoming more mobile as a unit. Even vehicles were adapting to accommodate the changing times. For example, the days would start with rides to school, for those without bus services. Then the errands. Then maybe some fun, with a scenic drive along the long way to pick up the kids from school.
Mobile
Additionally, there might be after school activities as well. They will require more traveling. All of this being out and about creates a need for replenishment along the way. Somewhere along the way. Perhaps a drive-thru for dinner on the way home? The time saved means an early start the next day.
That was in 1993. A quick Google search will shed some light with more details. However, it was the start of something beautiful. Thanks for reading today.
