The House Across the Street

The House Across the Street

The storms are gaining in strength, and the rain lashes against the window in waves. The lightning is crisp, and lights the night sky in bright, sporadic bursts. And the thunder roars, almost without ceasing.

It had been raining for days. Furthermore, there didn’t seem to be any end in sight. It was an unusual tropical disturbance. With this in mind the predicted weather was the same. No matter which media source was reporting.

The House

The house across the street sits silent, and dark. Especially the windows, which are dark pools of black, in the bright flashes of lightning. Nevertheless, the effect is unsettling.

The house across the street

Looking at it for any length of time causes nightmares about it. Similarly, the nightmares will be consistent for days. This had been learned first hand. However, only neighbors understood.

Lightning makes an impressive forked display across the night sky, and the heavy clap of thunder that follows, rattles the windows loudly. The rain bears down harder, a deluge unrestrained.

The house across the street has been empty for years. Furthermore, it is not for sale, or in disrepair. It sits vacant, and has never had a single visitor, not even the mail carrier. It has a simple lot, with no features, except grass that never grows.

The rain is a torrential downpour now, the air feels heavy with the oppressive force of the rain. The lightning flickers brilliantly, and peals of thunder reverberate through the night. And the storm is relentless.

Across the Street

The strange and imposing structure, across the street, is too big for its lot. Furthermore, it almost crowds out the adjacent houses. Therefore many complaints had been made about the property, and its obvious lack of regard for the building code. They went unanswered and were often discouraged.

Moreover the house still remained vacant. It had been for sale a few times, but no one ever came to see it. The for sale sign would appear, and disappear randomly. As though phased in and out of existence.

The thunder booms again, the lightning flashes, and the house across the street vanishes.
