The new game with retro vibes

There’s a new game in town. No it isn’t Al Capone. And for anyone that doesn’t know the name, it could also be the ‘notorious Al Capone’. He was pretty famous in his day. Although some will debate that the source of his fame is questionable. That is the interesting thing about history, it is as open to perspective as modern day events. For example, a historical event can be proven to have occurred, yet there will still be differing opinions on its details. One of the few things that escape this debate cycle is retro.

Retro TV to be exact, but any real retro item has that classic feel. Retro is like a first hand history lesson. It is what it is, done and left in the pages of time. However, thanks to film and recording mediums, it is still possible to experience the world of yesterday. Between retro TV and retro video games the world of yesterday fits almost seamlessly into the modern world. Furthermore, for the older generation, it is almost like coming home again when a favorite old television show comes on the screen.

New Game

Or a favorite old video game. In fact, there are more than a few old video games. Some are so popular they have endured through the years and even feel like a new game now. Furthermore, there are video games that inspired and spawned entire markets of spin-offs and collectibles and map packs and on it goes. Video games rock. And now all these years later we get to enjoy them all over again.

Hold the quarters though. There’s no need to drop coins to play these retro games. In fact we can play a classic right here in this article. Definitely a new game for this site. Additionally, retro games are sometimes found in inexpensive novelty designs like an old video game controller or an old style, console arcade game. The kind with a joystick. Some of those old games were hits because they were so basic. For example Pac-man, or Centipede. There was no way to play them except by going to the Arcade. Bring quarters. Lots of them.

Retro Vibes

After the popularity of video new games began to grow, the automated change machine appeared. Then it wasn’t necessary to bring a pocket full of quarters. Just a pocket full of dollar bills. There were all sorts of unspoken rules back in the arcade days. One of the major goals was to become so good at a game that one quarter would last indefinitely.

This saved money and it gave the gamer exclusive control over the console in the game room. As long as it was the same quarter in play the next person’s turn could be delayed indefinitely. Then an unspoken rule came into play. Put your quarter on the console surface and wait. Placing the quarter on the console meant as soon as the current player bit the dust it was the next person’s turn. The money was already laid down and there could be no dispute. It was an unspoken rule.

New Game Retro Vibes

Of course turnabout was fair play so there could be a stack of quarters on the machine. A newcomer might have to wait for the following day to have a chance at the new game.

With this in mind, it was a little too expensive to try and play, then master, every game. Most everyone had a favorite game. Furthermore, it was one they were good at and that got the most bang out of every quarter. Some of those old games were spectacularly difficult to play. That wasn’t always a positive thing. Burning through quarters meant less time in-game. It also meant an empty pocket.

By now it’s possible that you’ve tried the Frogger game above. It is also located in the Around the Bend menu option in the main menu of this site. So far no one has made it past level one. That’s a retro game right there. Either keep trying or admit defeat. Go ahead and give it a try. It doesn’t cost a quarter and it might be impossible to get past level one. Furthermore, it might feel like a new game, but it is definitely a retro masterpiece. Thanks for reading today.
