The old fashioned garden sprinkler miracle grow

The old fashioned garden sprinkler miracle grow.

If it wasn’t for the drought Mary wouldn’t have believed any of this. In fact, she wouldn’t have entertained the first thought on the matter. There might be things like magic in the world. She was sure of it. However, has she ever experienced magic for herself? Good question. And so far, there is no experience she remembers more than the garden sprinkler. She’s lived in the town of Keystone for most of her adult life. She bought one of the only two places available on the old Miner’s ridge. The second place (her future neighbor) had a much larger lot. Furthermore, in the beginning, Mary spent at least half her time traveling between her place and the city.

It hadn’t bothered her when the property next to hers remained vacant for several years. In fact, she hadn’t noticed it. She stayed so busy with work there was no time for anything else. Therefore, she couldn’t really say when her neighbor Miss Garrett moved in. The only thing she remembers is that impossibly beautiful garden springing up. Overnight. In the middle of a drought, no less. Now that she thinks back on it, there is something more. It is the old fashioned garden sprinkler. She wouldn’t have remembered it except for thinking about the drought. Then is when she first noticed it. On that day she learned about her new neighbor for the first time.

A hot day, and if not for the cleared field behind the house next door, Mary would have gone straight on inside after returning home from work. However, the sheer size of the clearing, caught her eye immediately. At least three acres. Furthermore, she felt astounded about that much land attached to the property next door.

The Old Fashioned Garden Sprinkler

A large amount of land attached to the property next door. Additionally, the entire lot had rows. Placed neatly and in a uniform way. Considering the entire lot had a thick stand of woods just the day before, the neatly spaced rows looked strange in contrast. However, it was the old fashioned garden sprinkler. That was the thing that caught Mary’s eye. The old fashioned sprinkler, in the middle of all those neatly tilled rows. The sprinkler is silent, and still. This doesn’t surprise Mary. After all, the town is in the middle of a drought.

What surprises Mary is the appearance of a lush and impossibly beautiful garden the following day. In fact, the garden is so astounding Mary literally has to check her calendar for the date. She spent an hour returning to her window to make sure she wasn’t dreaming. It’s the corn that causes her the most shock. It is tall and appears to be ready for harvest. Mary keeps looking at this. How is that even possible? Last night there was not even a blade of grass growing in all that dirt. Today there are ears of corn and zucchini, and so many tomatoes Mary can’t conceive of what they will do with them all.

Miracle Grow

She spends some time before leaving for work, watching to see who comes out to tend the impossible garden. Then she leaves for work as mystified as the day before. By the weekend, Mary decides to introduce herself to her new neighbors. At first it feels like a good idea. Then, as she stands on the front porch, she begins to second guess her decision. She is about to turn and leave when the door opens. Five minutes later Mary is having a delightful conversation with Miss Garrett. They are having tea and Mary is about to learn the secret of Miss Garrett’s incredibly beautiful garden.

It started with a story. Now that Mary thinks back on it, Miss Garrett insisted on telling that story first. A tale of two gardens. No that wasn’t it. The Twin Gardens, that was it. A tale of two kingdoms divided by a large river. And a Prince and a Princess in love. She smiles to herself. Miss Garrett hadn’t mentioned if they were in love, but Mary had to believe they were. However, that wasn’t the part that had her so bamboozled. It was the Twin Gardens. The old fashioned idea of being connected in a natural way.

The Old Fashioned Garden

“It’s that old sprinkler”, Miss Garrett had said. “It’s the old fashioned ones that make all the difference.” Then they had tea and Miss Garrett began that story of the Twin Gardens. For a second, Mary turns the knob of the glasses, and squints her eyes. Miss Garrett hadn’t had the chance to finish the story, because of the woman from the town council. They had been in the middle of their visit when the knock on the door stopped everything. Twenty minutes later Miss Garrett stands stunned as the town council lady drives away. Mary saw the whole thing.

Now she sees something else that piques her curiosity to the maximum. She presses the binoculars against her eyes and studies the garden across town. It is identical to Miss Garrett’s garden. From the rows of corn to the tomato plants, they are identical. How is that possible? Furthermore, as far as Mary knows, these are the only two gardens in all the areas of Keystone. She focuses the binoculars on the front of the house trying to see if it’s possible to see who lives there.

Movement causes her to pan the binoculars to the right. Startled, that’s when she sees him. Standing on the porch of the house next door to the garden house. A man with binoculars. Staring at her, staring at him.
