The Path of the Bishop – The Pawn Ticket

Renwell is confident it will work. It’s a risk but a calculated one. The pawn ticket will still be secure, and the problem will almost be resolved. He decides to have that Scotch after all. It was going to be a long night. The decanter is cool to the touch as he pours. There are still so many unknowns.

He checks for news on team B’s progress. Although he won’t be surprised to hear they have failed. Jenson is no slouch. Neither is he inexperienced at the game. Also he has already called for backup. Which means he has engaged with team B. Renwell frowns. It needs to work. Having Jenson as a rogue and in control of the pawn ticket would be…dangerous.

The path of the bishop – The Pawn Ticket

As he sips the Scotch he thinks of what will be done with the holder. Indeed, that was the damnable thing. The pawn ticket couldn’t exist without the holder. Every time they try to remove it, they lose it. That was one catch they hadn’t foreseen.

The Path of the Bishop - The Pawn Ticket

He messages the ground commander to scramble team C. He wants Jenson out of this asap. Furthermore he instructs the commander to ensure the holder’s well being. They couldn’t risk losing the ticket again. Indeed it has been three years since it’s last appearance.

With this in mind, he instructs team C to proceed with caution. With any luck they would have the pawn ticket here by early morning. From there it would be up to the council. However, the timing was critical. If they didn’t remove Jenson from the game quickly enough, the whole thing would be lost.

The pawn ticket

He receives word from team B that they have immobilized the holder. They are closing in. Furthermore, they are expecting resistance.

Jenson.

Renwell listens to the reports closely as team C joins the party. It will be a swift finish for Jenson. Renwell downs the last of the Scotch.
