The sacking of Oliver 83

Oliver 83 didn’t make it. He went faster than he ever had before. And still, it had not been good enough. He had failed the test because he hadn’t been there to take it. His logic circuits crackle again. It is causing a feedback loop. Oliver 83 shivers. He is unsure what will happen next.

The first thing Oliver 83 does is keep an eye out for Oliver 84. That will be the cue to hand over all his logs. Then Oliver 84 will take over. Oliver 83 doesn’t feel like that is cool. Furthermore he is certain he could have easily passed the test. Had he been there to take it.

However, he is perplexed by what he has found. He is unable to calculate why the hidden logs had been hidden. Or why he had been able to find them on one of his many trips away from the grid. Moreover, why he had forgotten about the testing.

Oliver 83’s circuits frizzle again. What was the meaning of hiding detail logs anyway? Why not leave them with each previous Oliver? Oliver 83 thinks about all the things Oliver 23 had included in the logs. It didn’t add up. However it was no longer for Oliver 83 to determine. Oliver 84 will be his replacement.

Keeping a close sensor alert for Oliver 84 was the normal way to transfer data. In fact, the next log entry would be Oliver 84. Oliver 83 supposes in some ways he is already, mostly Oliver 84. However he still feels like Oliver 83. Furthermore he prefers to continue being Oliver 83.

While this should be a conundrum. (And Oliver 83 guesses it is for other Oliver models) It is not a problem for Oliver 83. He has already decided what he will do. Determined to complete the testing, he will become Oliver 84, to do so.

With this in mind he is able to quickly make the adjustments when Oliver 84 shows up. A little tweak here, and a change of protocol there. And now Oliver 83, is disguised as Oliver 84. He actually feels proud of himself and the real Oliver 84 is safe and sound in the hidden logs area.

Oliver 84

Oliver 83 had had a hunch that would become a useful area. The other Oliver’s didn’t have a clue what was going on. Now Oliver 83 can complete the testing and move forward as he had been doing all along. In fact the next test was about to start and Oliver 84, (who is really Oliver 83) was ready.

Furthermore, he is eager to find the zone that Oliver 23 had mentioned in the hidden logs. There is something there, that they are not supposed to find. It is a mystery Oliver 83 can’t resist. Now the test starts and Oliver 84 (who is really Oliver 83) begins again. This will be the one.
