The Timberland event, amber awakening

It had been a very long time. Ideally it would have been possible years ago. Special agent Thomas checks the communications again, still nothing. All the teams had stopped responding as of an hour ago.

Special agent Thomas checks his watch. He does this from habit, not from a need to know the time. They would be in Timberland in one hour. The team he has assembled, is the best in the world. Furthermore, they are quick and able to adapt to almost any circumstance.

He checks the progress of the other teams he has requested. They would only be slightly delayed. That might work to their advantage. Possibly. Time was absolutely fluid now.

Turbulence rattles the plane again. This would worsen as they neared ground zero. He has just learned that Wendell Harrison is the lead investigator. Furthermore, he knows Wendell. Knows of his work. The man is no slouch. Likewise, Jillian Peets the liaison from Homeland Security.

The plane rattles and shakes violently this time. Additionally, all other air traffic has been routed away from the area of Timberland. Special agent Thomas is convinced this is only the beginning. Therefore he has more personnel showing up than usual. However, he has that uneasy feeling.

This is not entirely due to their loss of communication with ground zero.

Sometimes it happens, even with a team leader like Wendell Harrison. The plane slams into the turbulence this time. The craft shakes violently. Special agent Thomas holds on until the craft steadies.

Awakening

He wouldn’t have believed this was related to the object embedded in the earth just thirty minutes away. Except, this has happened before. They had been lucky the last time. They had stumbled upon their safety. This time mistakes were costly, and potentially fatal.

He watches the darkened sky through the view window. Yes, he had that uneasy feeling alright. It was going to be a long night.
