The turtle, the wolf and the frog, cry wolf

They were speeding down the highway. Julie was breathing heavy and shaking noticeably in the seat beside Tim. They were headed away from Happy Kids. Buddy was engrossed in his movie while riding comfortably in the back seat.

Tim keeps the vehicle steady while observing Julie’s condition. She appears to be in shock but unharmed otherwise. Her hands are shaking and she tries to sit on them as she continues to breathe heavily.

Buddy looks up from his screen and watches Julie closely. He is concerned and a quick look away from his screen is huge. Tim marvels again at the effect Julie has had on Buddy. A year ago and none of this had been conceivable.

Cry Wolf

The traffic is increasing in volume as they barrel down the highway. Julie inhales deeply and looks at Tim. He sees that she has been crying and therefore, is immediately alarmed. However she informs him that he can ease back on the speed. The situation is much safer now.

Tim obliges and eases back on the throttle. From beside him Julie asks if he has napkins. After she dries her eyes, she appears to have regained more of her composure. Then she turns in the seat, to acknowledge Buddy. It is obvious that he has been waiting for her to see him.

He smiles. Next, she asks him what movie he is watching, and for the next few minutes, Buddy animates, amazingly. Tim keeps the car pointed East and maintains the speed limit. The rush hour is well underway now, therefore he decides to go on to the shop. Maybe there, Julie would feel comfortable enough to talk about what has happened.
