Treasure quest rescue at the Bar K

Alex rushes after Butterbeans. She is ahead of him, and slightly down the hill. As he hurries to her location, he notices her demeanor is one of excitement. Her tail is wagging vigorously, and she is gazing intently at the ground. He feels puzzled as he nears her location. What has she found?

As Alex nears Butterbeans, he hears another sound that puzzles him even more. A voice. However, it isn’t just any voice. When he is ten feet away, he hears a decidedly feminine voice emanating from below Butterbeans. From the ground. Furthermore, Alex is still too far away from the spot, to see that Butterbeans has found an old well.

With this in mind, he feels startled when he reaches Butterbeans, and awkwardly meets Emily Kate for the first time. It is when Alex reaches Butterbeans, and he is teasingly asking her what she has found. He then sees the young woman in the well below. Likewise, she is gazing upward at them. Alex judges that she is roughly ten feet, or so, below them.

As Emily Kate’s eyes lock with Alex’s, her smile becomes radiant and dazzling. Alex feels momentarily stunned. He feels smitten with how beautiful she is. Then she speaks to him. And in hindsight, Alex is certain this is when he fell in love, with Emily Kate.

Emily Kate

Emily Kate is in a fix because of her colt. The same colt that she rescued only last week. This week she was on another rescue, of the same colt, when she found this delightfully hidden old well opening. She dusts the dirt from her clothes. As she looks around the small area, it is obvious this was once an old watering well.

Furthermore, the county decommissioned the old well, a long time ago. In fact, many of these old wells were being filled across the county. Emily suspects this one has settled through the years. With this in mind, she is looking for footholds to climb out, when a furry guardian angel appears ten feet above her. Emily Kate is pleasantly surprised to see Butterbeans. Although she only knows her as miracle pup, at the moment.

As Emily introduces herself to Butterbeans, she is happily relieved to see that this pup was different from most. Indeed, this rescuer had the telltale signs of advanced training. Plus, it was the friend of the young man who recently arrived in the area. The one whom Emily Kate herself, invited to the Bar K ranch. As if conjured from that same thought the young man appears at that very moment.

While Alex and Butterbeans meet Emily Kate for the first time, Jared waits. Alex went to find Butterbeans. He asked Jared to wait in the old barn while he went into the passage below. Jared remains prepared to help Alex should he communicate with him. However, there hasn’t been any word from Alex yet.

Therefore Jared was studying some of the old millwork casings in the saddle room, of the old barn. They were intricate, and finely crafted for an old saddle room. One in particular, caught his eye, while he waited for Alex and Butterbeans to return. As he examines it, he finds a hidden latch.

The Bar K and Butterbeans

Jared tugs gently at the latch, and just above it, a small drawer pops out. He can barely believe his eyes. It was cleverly hidden in the design of the old millwork. He would have missed it, if he hadn’t been sitting on the floor of the old barn. As it is, he feels infinitely intrigued as he peers into the small drawer. There is definitely something in it.

Jared reaches in and pulls out a very old key, and a very old, folded piece of parchment. He knows immediately, the old parchment is a map. Furthermore the key opened something located at the X marked on the map.
