The cobblestone bakery

The oven is ready. The dough is pressed into the pan. And into the oven it goes. One hour later, and the smell of freshly baked bread fills the bakery.

All morning the pans of dough go into the oven. By early afternoon, the whole street has the pleasant scent of freshly baked bread. It carries on the breeze, and draws hungry customers to the bakery.

The loaves of freshly baked bread are piping hot from the oven. Then they are placed on cooling racks. After this they can be selected by hungry customers.

The bakery only does bread and rolls, nothing sweet, that is a doughnut shop not a bakery. The bakery attempted to bake cookies. But the cookies were stubborn, and would not leave the cooling racks.

There was never any trouble with the loaves of bread. The loaves disappeared, often while still cooling. So, the bakery only has freshly baked bread and piping hot rolls.

The Bakery

It just so happens on this particular day that the cooling racks are full. Furthermore the sweet smell of freshly baked bread, fills the entire street in front of the bakery.

The oven is also full and about to send out more freshly baked bread and rolls, but there is no more room on the cooling racks. This is a rare occurrence, the cooling racks always have room for more loaves of hot, freshly baked bread.

What has happened that the cooling racks still have their loaves? The bakery may have to store their freshly baked bread, for the very first time.

Cobblestone

The door on the floor, leading to the cellar of the cobblestone bakery, is open. The steps leading down, are solid, and carry on into the darkness below.

There is plenty happening down there. Lots of noise. However no soul has ever been beneath the floor of the cobblestone bakery. At least not a living one.
