The pawn ticket – Fool’s mate gambit
Jenson is ready. The team is in place. They rehearsed the mission objectives. Therefore, all are on the same page. Jenson feels worried about Tucker’s safety. The team Jenson assembled for this mission is among the best. Therefore, they have a good chance of succeeding. Which means Renwell has an even better chance at failing.
Jenson can’t help feeling slightly uneasy. After all, this was a big operation. Furthermore, it isn’t everyday the Rook Division handles challenges directly. In fact, he is willing to bet they won’t see it coming. This is exactly what he wants. The boldness of what they are about to do, will be a catalyst for change.
At least that is the hope. It would all start with lab sixty four. The lab is also where they keep the machine. The one found in that desert crash, from all those years ago. Jenson checks his data, and sees they are right on schedule. He thinks more of the machine, and its unknown purpose. The only thing they were certain of, is that it generated the pawn tickets.

Renwell is only slightly behind schedule. It wouldn’t take long to pick up the papers he needed from his office. Then he would meet the team at Lab sixty four. They will be arriving later than expected. Therefore, he has just enough time. The papers contain the most recent research they have to date. Renwell is confident this holder will be the breakthrough, they have been waiting for.
With this in mind, Renwell quickly gathers the research and returns to his car. The trip out to the lab would be another hour. Renwell isn’t concerned for the holder’s safety in the least. Indeed if they were able to separate the ticket from the holder, it would have happened back at the office, where the holder worked.

Out of all the things Renwell encountered since becoming involved with the Rook Division, the pawn ticket, is the most mysterious. It took twenty years to determine that something was happening. Not only happening, but also happening consistently. Furthermore, according to their most recent breakthrough, there is much more to this than they thought.
Tucker’s Take
The vehicle comes to a stop. Tucker tries to look around. However, the rear of the van has no windows. In fact, he can only partially see out the front window. They are opening the doors and dragging him out before he can plan anything. He wants to run. He feels betrayed by Jenson. How could the man have just stranded him back at the hotel?
He feels certain they came to an understanding, of sorts. He is pushed rudely from behind. Then again, toward a door in the front of a large plain building. This time he nearly trips. However, he manages to keep his footing and continue. He checks his pocket for the pawn ticket. It’s there. A feeling of relief floods his system.
The Room
In fact, he feels such relief, he momentarily forgets what his situation is. He is prodded from behind. Hard. He stumbles into the open door in front of him. And it leads to a hallway, that runs deeper into the building. It appears to get darker the deeper they go. For the first time Tucker feels the icy fingers of fear crawl up his spine.
He is shoved again. This time into a darkened room that smells of ammonia and disinfectant. The door slams behind Tucker. And now without doubt, he knows he is in trouble. A moment later and bright light floods the room. Now Tucker is scared.
