The second opinion for better health
It was back in the early nineties, when things like a second opinion, became more common. Of course there is no scientific study to confirm this. However, it’s possible to make that observation, if it was observed or experienced, first hand. Furthermore, the idea of another opinion is not considered a bad thing.
In fact, the intent of the second opinion was the opposite of a bad thing. Not only could it help cut costs, but also it helped curb medical mistakes. Everyone wanted to avoid unnecessary procedures, and medical mistakes. If possible.
Furthermore, things like lab testing and blood work, were not always reliable. Therefore, accuracy wasn’t always one hundred percent. Having something like a second opinion, offers accuracy. As well as peace of mind.
The Second Opinion
Things are different in today’s world. A second opinion is a process. It is still a choice, but one that is outside the normal operating procedures. Due to rules and red tape, and not enough bandage tape, getting another opinion is still a benefit, but a lengthy process. Similarly it is as widely accepted now, as at any other time in the past.
The past that includes the second opinion. This should also be the case in today’s world. Simplicity should be the goal of the established system. It really should be. Once upon a time, doctors and their patients were closer. Closer in the sense that a patient felt heard, when communicating a concern, to the doctor.
Additionally, in the not too distant past, doctors would consider things like a cure. The idea of having people dependent on a lifelong treatment plan, wasn’t always the norm.Once upon a time they didn’t make a pill for that. And who knows what the heck is in that pill anyway? Did it get some sort of Fast Track because of a politico mix or something? Stranger things have definitely happened.
Health and Wellness
It may have seemed like that was all leading up to a cure. After all, that’s what going to the doctor is all about. Getting a cure from what ails. Unless there’s no cure. Once upon a time, in America, it was about curing a disease. The idea of finding a treatment, but not curing the original condition, was a ridiculous notion. Sure the treatment would help. However, a cure meant it was possible to eliminate the whole thing.
Perhaps that is not entirely true. Maybe the plan wasn’t to create a long term revenue stream. However, that is for the next article in this topic of interest. This article is more focused on the change in doctor, patient, communication. Suffice it to say, the situation could benefit from some changes. Fortunately they may be on the horizon at long last.
With this in mind it is more important than ever to seek a second opinion if the first one seems off. Additionally, the chances of diminishing possible mistakes, and miscommunication, are worth the extra effort. Thanks for reading today.
