The snack battle; make mine a tomato.

The snack battle; make mine a tomato.

It’s a good meal. Yet sometimes a snack can eat like a meal. This can be especially true with nachos. However the nachos were a fresh idea from yesterday and this was today.

With this in mind, finding a snack was quickly becoming a mission. We had chips, two different kinds, and also cookies. Furthermore, there were flavored popsicles. We had snacks, or there was snack food available. However nothing was satisfying the craving.

This is when the discussion on snack food began. It’s possible everyone defines a snack differently. So, we started there. The little one was curious how snack food differed from regular food. Furthermore, he is very sharp. Not only had he noticed the term snack food, but also he had intuited a difference.

Snack Battle

Since we were in an interlude, (our dill chicken recipe is still in development) we were hungry, but didn’t have time for a full meal. We needed a short meal with simple ingredients.

We decided that it was a good idea to check out some ingredients. There certainly were a lot of them in the chips. Furthermore, it was boring reading, and it didn’t tell a story. The cookies were even worse. I agree with the little munchkin, what even is a sorbitan monostearate?

It sure doesn’t sound tasty. In fact, the ingredients became so strange and so many, we had to check and make sure it was actually cookies in the package. Though this was perplexing, it did give us an idea.

We decided to try our snack tester technique on something more basic. Something like bread. 😳 What even is sorbitan monostearate? Whatever it is we found it, and a few of it’s buddies, in the bread too. We always thought bread was dough, baked.

A Tomato

Things were officially complicated at that point, so, we went even more basic. A tomato. The one ingredient snack. When we started there, other snack foods started coming to mind right away!

We also had bananas! Another one ingredient delight! Then we started thinking about the snack foods with lots of the same ingredient, like grapes! Strawberries and blueberries were next. Although, we had no strawberries. Or blueberries. For that matter, there were no grapes either.

However, we had a tomato. We took a slice of the bread, put a slice of cheese on it, with a slice of tomato, and baked it in a hot oven. We named it chomato toast. It was a good snack.

Furthermore we learned some things about ingredients. Perhaps not volumes on their definition but a basic principle. More isn’t always better. Sometimes less is more. It surely is with a tomato! Thanks for reading.
