The surprise strategy of the evil mushroom

Once upon a time, strategy guides were useful. However, the cheat code enthusiast wanted a more direct approach. Like infinite lives, or invincibility. Additionally, infinite ammo and infinite storage were the things that cheat codes could unlock. And that wasn’t all. Depending on the game, and the gaming console, the entire game could be unlocked.

So this was the early days of gaming. Back when Mario world first arrived. Nintendo was a big deal and new. Furthermore, gaming was entering a new era. One that moved it from the arcade straight into the living room. It wasn’t long before there were home video game consoles everywhere. Furthermore, there was a great interest in the games, and their stories. As well as the characters. The evil mushroom included.

The thing about the evil mushroom? Things like strategy guides, and cheat codes, were very hard to find. Imagine a world in which a video game home console has no connection to the internet. For some in the younger crowd that may not be possible. However, it was a thing back in the day. There were video games. And they stayed at home, unconnected to the world.

Surprise Strategy

Considering the heightened intelligence of the average evil mushroom it took a lot of battles to finally get those strategy guides published. People were stuck on levels for months, before the first of the strategy guides appeared. And they were not on the internet. They were in bookstores, and the department stores of the day.

With this in mind, they were also in demand. It was not uncommon to go to the store, and see them sold out. Although a strategy guide did not have cheat codes, it was still very useful. The cheat codes aspect of gaming started when the internet finally arrived. The ability to share information worldwide was just what the gamer ordered. Similarly just about every gamer began a search for tips on their favorite game.

It started small. It began as forums, or leader boards. Then it was entire websites. All dedicated to the discovery of cheat codes. It wasn’t just to beat a game. It went much deeper than that. Beating the game was the purpose of getting the game. The cheat codes made it an entirely new game, after the fact.

Back to the Evil Mushroom

By now it may be obvious where this story is heading. If not, it will be soon. It is an unlocking process. Just like the past, it has a sequence. Not the evil mushroom. The evil mushroom has a firm place in time. In fact, there wasn’t even a cheat code to remove the evil mushroom. If anything, there were more of them. Furthermore, they could show up anywhere. And they did.

Once upon a time new video games were challenging. In other words they were like stories. And they operated like a story in a book. The cheat codes were anomalies in the game code. Similar to wishes in real life, they could make the game more fun. And that’s when the evil mushroom introduced the surprise strategy. That is where all of this is heading. And it will take one more article to get the strategy isolated for review. Thanks for reading.
