The thing about love in a new world

The best things come to those who wait. I remember that saying from my youth. From parents to grandparents that was a go to response for the impatient kid. Years later, to our own children, we repeat the saying. Sometimes these sayings carry through the years. Sometimes we repeat them with some personal experience in mind.

One thing is certain, the old sayings still have relevance. Likewise they root in experience. In fact, it is necessary to search backward in time to find the beginning (or supposed beginning) of an old saying. Therefore, old sayings have their roots in history as well. And something very old sometimes has great worth. That’s the thing about love.

It is something very old. In fact, there are stories about love that date back thousands of years. As it relates to the human condition, love intertwines itself throughout history. Furthermore, history has many examples of more than one form of love. Which is one reason why it should be abundant. And where it is genuine, it is always abundant.

The Thing About Love

With this in mind, over vast amounts of time the perception of something can change based on the circumstances. For example, in today’s world, some ancient ceremonies would not be appropriate in a modern society. However, their time and place in history is acceptable. That’s the nature of civilization.

Parents providing for their children and helping them with a positive start in life is the nature of love. Furthermore there are ancient written accounts of parents showing love for their children. Similarly there are historical written works of great romances that led to even greater love. Indeed, the thing about love is that it’s pretty well documented.

There have been students of love, and philosophers that may or may not, have considered it relevant. However, considering the source of love, relevance is a given. In other words, love is real. Therefore its Source is also real. The thing about love in today’s world is often the casual regard it receives.

More About the Source

Sometimes a casual regard toward the concept of love is evident in today’s world. However, in its raw form, it is the same since written record keeping began. One of the most beautiful definitions of love ever written is in the Bible. It captures the essence and depth of love. And that’s the thing about love. It is the same today, as it was over two thousand years ago.

The verses below are from the New International Version of the Bible and they are: 1 Corinthians, chapter 13, verse 4 – 7 as follows.

(4) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. (5) It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. (6) Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (7) It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
