The unusual origin of the peanut butter and banana sandwich
The origin story isn’t always about a superhero. Sometimes it’s about a Hero sandwich. Or the best sandwich ever made, imagine your favorite, and that’s the one. When a sandwich comes from a shop, or deli, it is professionally made. There are ingredients that most folks don’t have at home. That’s one reason why the sandwich shop, or deli, is so popular. It has great taste. Literally.
With this in mind, an origin story about a sandwich, can be an interesting topic. And the peanut butter and banana sandwich is a great candidate for an origin story. This isn’t the first article about the special nature of the peanut butter and banana sandwich. There’s a lot of variations and enhancement recipes online. However, the origin story is about the most basic and humble recipe. The one with all the ingredients in almost every cupboard. Bread, peanut butter and a banana.
Add those items together, and now it’s a nutritious and flavorful snack. One that eats like a meal. Preparation time, almost nil. Depending on how the banana is sliced. Additionally, the basic recipe takes very little time to prepare. And, as mentioned earlier, there are variations to enhance the basic recipe. For example, grilling the sandwich. Or adding additional ingredients such as honey, or bacon.
The Unusual Origin
If that last part sounds familiar, you might be an older individual. Although, it’s not the origin of the sandwich, it’s the origin of a particular variation. In fact, a variation made popular by someone very famous. That’s right, Elvis Presley had a favorite variation of the peanut butter and banana sandwich. Furthermore, it included bacon. Now, I’m getting hungry.

Furthermore, bacon helped propel the popularity of the sandwich to new heights. In other words, folks tried it and they liked it. Therefore it became a favorite. Much like a family staple, or tradition. Aside from the balance of flavors and the nutrition benefits, the sandwich is affordable. Enough to fit almost any budget. Variations can add to the cost. For instance, bacon isn’t cheap and real honey isn’t either. However, a boost in nutrition can be worth it.
The origin of the sandwich, is unknown. At least there’s no definitive research locking in an actual creation date. The history of the sandwich, has notable moments. Such as Elvis and his popular variation. And other variations, like grilled, or deep fried versions of the sandwich. But an actual creation date, or origin story, is unknown.
