Work Ethic: How The best Habits Drive Real Results

A work ethic can’t be found on any aisle in a store. It must be developed. Or built. Some people are born with the ability to work tirelessly. Others are not. However, there’s an old saying that goes: nothing worth having comes easy. This suggests that some kind of effort goes along with quality. In other words, a solid work ethic takes root in quality effort.

It was once widely accepted for children to work. In fact, once upon a time (in early America) farming was a way of life. Therefore, children worked on the farm. Similarly, the farm was home, and home meant daily chores. At the very least. Depending on how far back one goes, some of those chores from the old days, are paid professions now. For example, milking cows, or weeding the garden, or hanging out the laundry for drying on a clothesline. Furthermore, in the days before indoor plumbing, children went to the well to fetch water for the family’s evening needs.

A Work Ethic to be Proud Of

Those chores became part of developing a solid work ethic. The old timers would say “Building a work ethic” and that sounds appropriate. Furthermore, it’s only fitting that the description of the work ethic is about work. It’s solid and that’s what a good work ethic should be. Solid. It’s part and parcel, as they used to say. In other words, can’t have one without the other. That statement originates from experience. Experience is the back bone of a solid work ethic.

Anyone born in the 1960s or 1970s knows a little about history. It isn’t necessary to use Google to learn what they already lived. Furthermore, the memories are from the perspective of childhood. That perspective (even if 20/20 hindsight) is an innocent lens that is ultimately outdated. So your grandpa may not be weird after all. In fact, your grandpa and grandma might be closer to the truth, when it comes to building a solid work ethic.

Why It Matters

They lived through those long ago days. Anyone that lives through an age will have a first hand account of that day and age. It feels like common sense. Or something that should be easy to understand; because it feels intuitive. However, we live in a world vastly more complicated than it was thirty years ago. Or fifty years ago. And one hundred years ago might as well be a millennium ago. We seem to get further away from the truth of ethics, the further forward we travel in years.

It didn’t help that the world shut down for a while. That slowed things down across the board. However, the children paid the highest price. Things were already on shaky ground. Then the shutdowns, and the loss of time. Not only the loss of time, but also the loss of social bonding and real communication. Furthermore, it turns out that it didn’t have to be that way. However, the damage is already done.

Real Results from the Best Habits

The reason the shutdown matters is because the education of the youth took a backseat. A backseat to what? Fill in the blank. If something is not a priority, it takes a backseat to priority. However, it was more than just education that suffered from those days. Furthermore, this observation isn’t about that dark time in human history, or who is to blame. This observation is more of an effort to convey the idea that it’s not too late. It’s still possible to exemplify a solid work ethic. The little ones are always watching; if they’re not watching a screen.

It’s important that the concept of dedicated work and honest reward, still be taught. The idea is so simple that in the old days it was a primary survival skill. Consider it: There was only farming to grow food in the old days. If no one worked to grow the food, no one had anything to eat. That may seem too pioneer, however the fishermen have the same lot. If no line is cast, how can any fish be caught? Working for a living and working for a goal (or some other end) is still working. A solid work ethic comes from the consistent application of effort.

Work Ethic

Of course this is just one opinion. However, it is an experience based opinion. The work ethic is more than just a title. It flows through every aspect of human interaction. Without it, the results are grim. Additionally, it is budget friendly. It comes free with consistent effort. Experiencing soreness and tiredness, are two of the top symptoms that the process is actually working. Thanks for reading.
